Jill Kargman is already a New York Times best-selling author and a mom of three, so stepping into the spotlight at age 40 for her first big role on television wasn't stressful at all.
"I think there's a freedom in being 40 where you just don't give a s---," she tells PEOPLE. "I really don't care and I don't have the same insecurities that I probably would have had at 20 if I pursued it."

In Odd Mom Out, Jill Kargman stars as Jill Weber, a stay-at-home mother to three children and wife to a husband whose career keeps them in the 99th percentile of the 1 percent.
Resting comfortably in the top tier of the 1 percent are Jill's in-laws. Her sister-in-law, Brooke (Abby Elliott), is straight out of Kargman's 2007 novel Momzilla on which the scripted Bravo comedy is based. Rich, blonde, entitled and with more nannies than children, Brooke acts as a foil to the more laid-back Jill.
While Kargman shares similarities with her onscreen alter ego, her real-life sister-in-law Drew Barrymore – who married Kargman's brother, art consultant Will Kopelman in 2012 – is far from the flighty, spinning-obsessed Brooke, whose pet project is preventative lap band surgery for children of overweight parents.
