" When I sat down for a casual lunch in New York City with my editor, the Discovery Channel head of PR, and Philippe Cousteau (yes, the Cousteau, (his grandfather is the legendary under water explorer Jacques Cousteau,) the last thing on my mind was going swimming with sharks for Shark Week. But, before we finished the guacamole and chips I had agreed to do exactly that. One month later I was a certified open water scuba diver, clinging to a rock 60-ft underwater in Tahiti, while a 17-ft Tiger shark loomed inches above my head.

Roth's love for the kings of the ocean shines through in an exclusive new trailer he created to accompany his upcoming gig hosting Discovery's late-night talk show Shark After Dark, which airs during the network's annual Shark Week TV event.
"I've always been a huge fan of Shark Week," Roth, 43, tells PEOPLE. "When I was in New York City after college, there was a phone booth with the most incredible poster of a great white from Shark Week. I stole it and hung it my apartment because it was the coolest poster I had ever seen."

Justin Bieber, girlfriend Selena Gomez, Cody Simpson, director Alfredo Flores and a few other friends visited Goretorium in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Bieber, Gomez and friends met up with creator Eli Roth at 1:30 p.m. for a private tour of the frightening venue.
Roth, who is also the brains behind horror films Hostel and Cabin Fever, created Goretorium as a self-guided multi-level maze of horrors.
The group started off in the lobby of the mythical Delmont hotel but as they toured the space, more and more gruesome sights were revealed.
"Once the group made it out 'alive' they toured the Goretorium retail shop, which is filled with horror props," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

While filming Quentin Tarantino's movie about World War II, Inglourious Basterds, superdad Brad Pitt offered up some unconventional hygiene tips for his sometimes smelly costars.
"He shared that when you're sweating and don't have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits," Pitt's costar and pal Eli Roth told PEOPLE at Saturday's Spike TV Guys Choice 2009 in Los Angeles, set to air on the cable network June 21 at 10 p.m.
"After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, 'Damn, you're ripe,' " recalls Roth, 37. "I said, 'I didn’t have time to shower.' He said, 'Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.' "
