It's all fun and games until a Saved by the Bell star takes a pie to the face.

Mario Lopez appeared on Friday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show and got a sweet surprise when his former on-screen high school sweetheart Elizabeth Berkley showed up.

After welcoming Lopez's former castmate, DeGeneres pitted the pair against one another in a fun game of Pie Face. She sent the first trivia question over to Berkley asking for the amount of caffeine in a single cup of coffee. The actress, 43, answered incorrectly but came out unscathed.

Speculation about who will join Kelly Ripa as the next co-host of Live! has been ramping up since PEOPLE exclusively broke the news that Michael Strahan's last day is May 13.

Ellen DeGeneres is keeping the conversation going on Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show when she asks Mario Lopez about "rumors" that he might be in line to take Strahan's seat.


"That's very flattering," Lopez, 42, said with a laugh. "I know some people were saying that. Again, very flattering. I love Kelly. I've guest-hosted with her a few times. She's awesome. ... I'm looking forward to going back and guest-hosting."

Ellen DeGeneres began the conversation by congratulating the 46-year-old on 12 successful seasons and touched on Patrick Dempsey's shocking departure from their hit ABC show. His beloved character – Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd, was killed off at the end of Season 11.

DeGeneres noted that fans were ready to throw in the towel after Dempsey's departure saying, "everybody thought because Patrick was leaving [Grey's Anatomy] that it wouldn't do well, but it's doing very well."
