Originally posted 11/15/2009 04:00PM

After battling both the flu and an E. coli bacterial infection, Elton John will resume his performance schedule Monday night.

Despite his recent hospitalization, the star's rep tells the Web site Gossip Cop that John is "feeling much better" and while he did have to cancel a number of appearances due to the illness, he will attend his Elton John AIDS Foundation's "An Enduring Vision" in New York City Monday night.

In addition to the organization's namesake, Anderson Cooper will attend as host, and former President Bill Clinton and Sharon Stone will be honored.

It's back to the Yellow Brick Road for Elton John – who left the hospital early Thursday after illness had forced him to cancel a series of concerts.

The singer, 62, was treated at a hospital last weekend in London after suffering from flu and a "serious case" of e. coli bacterial infection, his Web site said.

His spokesman Gary Farrow tells PEOPLE the singer is now "fine."

The hitmaker (I'm Still Standing, Rocket Man) will resume his concert schedule in Oakland and San Jose, Calif., where he will join Billy Joel on Nov. 14 and 17.

Flu Forces Elton John to Cancel Concerts

The flu may be on everyone's minds, but it happens to be in Elton John's system – prompting the British musician, who is said to be in a London hospital for treatment of e-coli bacterial infection and influenza, to postpone the Seattle and Portland, Ore., dates on his current tour, costarring Billy Joel, the BBC reports.

Monday morning, John's spokesman Gary Farrow told Reuters that, despite the hospitalization, Sir Elton, 62, was "absolutely fine" and hoped to return to entertaining soon.

According to his official Web site, Sir Elton postponed a Dublin performance on Thursday after earlier shelving concerts in London, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle.

Elton John Cannot Adopt Ukrainian Orphan

The Ukrainian orphan Elton John wants to adopt will not go home with the singer and his longtime partner David Furnish, a Ukrainian family minister said Monday – citing a national law that prohibits unmarried couples from adopting, the Associated Press reports.

John and Furnish entered into a civil partnership on Dec. 21, 2005, the first day such unions became legal in John's native England.

Elton John To Adopt?

Elton John got more than he bargained for on a tour of a Ukrainian orphanage Saturday – a toddler who stole his heart.

The singer told reporters that his partner, David Furnish, "always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no, because I am 62 and because of the traveling I do."

But after meeting Lev, a Ukranian toddler, "I've changed my mind . . . I would love to adopt him," John, adding of the potential bureaucratic hurdles: "I don't know how we would do that but he has stolen my heart."

Simon Cowell Lives Large as Musicians Lose Millions in Downturn

Ubiquitous talent spotter Simon Cowell has seen his fortune rise as traditional rock stars lose out in the recession.

Cowell, who judges American Idol and the U.K's X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, is seven percent richer than last year, with a net worth of at $175.2 million, according to Ian Coxon, editor of The Sunday Times Rich List.

And he's nearly alone on this one. His rise comes as others fare poorly in the struggling economy.

Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, 66, holds onto his third-place position in the list of British music millionaires, but his wealth has fallen from $730 million to $642.4 million – a drop of 12 percent. The decrease is attributed to "falling property and share values [that] have wiped $87.6 million off Sir Paul McCartney's fortune," The Sunday Times says.

Sir Elton John may be set to play his 250th and final performance of his show, The Red Piano, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas Wednesday night, but that doesn't mean he and partner David Furnish will suddenly settle down to build a family.

"I don't think our lives are suited to raising children," Furnish, 46, told PEOPLE at last weekend's GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. "We're busy flying places all the time."

Said Furnish, "Elton is not really going to come off the road. We don't want to put the raising of children into the hands of nannies and housekeepers. We want to be active parents. We have godchildren [and] kids that we support in Africa, so we're fine."
