Emma Watson Plans U.S. College – Minus Scary Spring Break
Originally posted 04/21/2009 12:10PM
It's no secret Emma Watson – a.k.a. Hermione Granger in Harry Potter's world – wants a degree from an American college, preferably an Ivy League school like Brown. At U.S. universities "you're encouraged to be broad and choose many different subjects," the U.K.-bred actress tells this month's Interview magazine.
But there's a American-college ritual that the star, 19, currently at work on the seventh and eighth installments of Harry Potter, plans to skip: a crazy spring break on a sunny beach.

Being Sexy Embarrasses Emma Watson

Though her Harry Potter costar Daniel Radcliffe has bared all in London and New York stage productions of Equus, Hermione Granger is content to remain the clean-cut belle of Hogwarts.
"I have no plans to do anything for the sake of it, or to shock people," the actress, 18, tells the U.K.'s Mail on Sunday's Live magazine.
"I might be willing to take my clothes off for a Bernardo Bertolucci film, if it was a part that really made sense as part of my character. But I wouldn't do it just to make a point, to move on from Hermione."

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is ready to trade acting for academia – and the brainy beauty is even considering some American colleges.
"There are excellent universities over there [in the U.S.] and I'm applying at the moment," she told Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper. "If I go to America, I would do a liberal arts program."
Watson, now 18, has made more than $17 million from the nine years she has spent playing the hardest-working girl at Hogwarts. The final Potter film is set to wrap in fall 2009.
She recently scored straight A's in her high school finishing exams.

Emma Watson: 'It's Hard' to Grow Up on Screen
Originally posted 09/02/2008 11:20AM
Playing Hermione isn't as spellbinding as it seems. Emma Watson says she has struggled during her journey from 9-year-old child actress to 18-year-old movie star.
"In a way, it's hard to grow up inside a film. I lived a period of my life that is full of lessons and changes under the spotlight," the Harry Potter actress tells Vogue Italy.
"People have the strange feeling of knowing me intimately because they have seen my transformation from child to woman, albeit only on screen."

Emma Watson has proved the equal of her brainy Harry Potter alter-ego, Hermione: She's gotten straight A's on her A-levels, England's high school finishing exams, a source close to the actress confirms to PEOPLE.
Watson, who turned 18 in April, received her results Thursday. She took three A-level exams: English Literature, History of Art and Geography.
"She's ecstatic," says the source. "She worked really hard and she got the results."
Meanwhile, fans won't see Watson and the gang in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this Thanksgiving season, as originally expected. The Hollywood Reporter says the movie – originally to be released Nov. 11 – has been pushed back to July 17, 2009.

Guests toasted the birthday girl with pink champagne followed by wines from Watson's father's own vineyard. Her mother contributed dessert: a four-tiered birthday cake. "It looked like a wedding cake," a guest told PEOPLE.
None of Watson's Harry Potter costars were at the dinner, although Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy, turned up at about 10 p.m., when some of Watson's friends had been invited for dancing.

My, how they've grown. From left, Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Harry Potter himself (Daniel Radcliffe) begin their sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth installment in the film series, due to open in theaters Nov. 21.
In it, Harry happens upon an ancient book mysteriously marked "Property of the Half-Blood Prince" – which helps the trio learn more about evil wizard Lord Voldemort's dark past.
Last week, it was also learned that the seventh and final book in J.K. Rowling's series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, will be divided into two movie installments. Muggles, rejoice!

Emma Watson Longs to Be a Normal Teen
Originally posted 12/17/2007 12:10PM
Playing Hermione in the Harry Potter films has brought Emma Watson unimagined wealth and fame. But sometimes the 17-year-old actress would just like hang out with her friends without causing a scene.
"I'm not the girl they get the number 19 bus into town with to grab a coffee," Watson tells the Daily Telegraph of her friends. "I just get mobbed. ... It's an uncomfortable experience for everyone. Sometimes I miss the fact that I have never really been a teenager because I have been Hermione for such a long time."
