Forget the starry-eyed romance. Gabrielle Union says she plans to marry NBA star Dwyane Wade with an open heart – and an iron-clad prenup.
"I've got to protect my stuff," the Being Mary Jane star matter-of-factly told the ageless Arsenio Hall on The Arsenio Hall Show Monday night.
Union, 41, has made it clear she's hoping to avoid repeating mistakes she made when her first marriage, to NFL star Chris Howard, ended in divorce in 2005.

The couple that sings together, stays together.
Gabrielle Union and fiancé Dwyane Wade sang karaoke for a cause Monday at South Beach Battioke at the Fillmore Miami Beach, which benefitted Shane Battier's Take Charge Foundation.
Union strutted her stuff to "I've Got Friends in Low Places" while reigning NBA MVP LeBron James sang "Back That A–– Up" and brought the house down when he, Wade, and Udonis Haslem grooved to Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines." The Hangover star Ken Jeong also made an appearance with a convincing Guns N Roses rendition.
Prior to showing off her country side on stage, Union opened up to PEOPLE about the overwhelming support she's received since announcing her engagement.

Dwyane Wade has confirmed that he fathered a child while on a break from now-fiancée Gabrielle Union, and says his infant son is a "blessing."
"In our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it ? a son that was born healthy," the Miami Heat star, 31, said at a press conference Monday. "So, I'm moving on."
Wade acknowledged that he and Union, 41, have been working through the issue together, but added that he was proud to have a third son.
"Me and my lady and my family have continued to move forward, and I think that's evident with the ring and the proposal that I gave her," he said. "This is something, obviously, private for my family that we will continue to deal with as a family, but we have a blessing to the bloodline, to the Wade bloodline."

Dwyane Wade fathered a son during a temporary split from his now-fiancée Gabrielle Union earlier this year, Entertainment Tonight reports.
The actress, 41, was aware of the child before she accepted the Miami Heat guard's proposal on Dec. 21, a source tells the show, and the pair have worked through the issue privately. Wade, 31, has known the baby's mother for years and recently visited with his new son.
Wade spoke to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show in September about the break from Union, whom he had dated since 2009. The separation was largely due to the demands of their work lives, he explained.
