Trisha Yearwood: I'm in the Best Shape of My Life

When she learned her husband, Garth Brooks, would be singing at the April 7 Academy of Country Music Awards alongside his hero George Strait, Trisha Yearwood began searching for "arm candy" attire to wear to the Las Vegas event.
That's when she spied that dress – a formfitting Stella McCartney column that she'd first admired on Kate Winslet in 2011. "I'd been working hard and losing inches, but I wondered, 'Can I fit into that?'" Yearwood recalls. The answer was a jaw-dropping yes. "It was tight!" says Yearwood, but "I felt confident. It was a wow dress."

Her husband Garth Brooks may have been a performance highlight at Sunday's 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, but Trisha Yearwood, 48, stole a bit of the spotlight when she showed off her fit physique while presenting an award at the show in Las Vegas.
"I've been dieting and exercising and I've lost about 20 lbs.," Yearwood told PEOPLE at the Southern Kitchen brunch she hosted at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in February.
The Grammy winner and star of the Food Network's Trisha's Southern Kitchen says she sticks to a healthy eating plan – with the occasional splurge.
"I'm doing very little sugar," Yearwood said. "And occasionally I have the mac and cheese."

Vegas is going country.
The ACM Awards have arrived – and Nashville's biggest stars are kicking up their cowboy boots in Sin City for Sunday night's big show.
Helming the event are hosts Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan, but country vets like Garth Brooks and George Strait (taking the stage together for the first time) will rub elbows with newer stars, like The Band Perry and Florida Georgia Line.

Here's some news that's sure to be music to country fans' ears – and black hat lovers everywhere!
Garth Brooks, 51, and George Strait, 60, are set to perform together for the very first time. Their collaboration will take place at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which airs live on CBS, April 7 in Las Vegas – and will honor Dick Clark, who began producing the program in 1979 until his death a week after last year's show.
The talented musical pair are the two most recent winners of the show's artist of the decade honor, with Strait being acknowledged for his work in the '00s and Brooks in the '90s.
Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan will be hosting this year's program. Tune in for the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, April 7 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Mindy McCready Memorialized with Music in Nashville

Two photographs of Mindy McCready at the height of her career and beauty flanked a large arrangement of flowers near the altar of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville Wednesday afternoon, where more than 200 people gathered to remember the country singer who took her own life on Feb. 17 in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
In the front pew of the Catholic church, her mother Gayle Inge, brothers Josh and T.J. McCready and other family members listened to moving memories of her as a little girl and as a talented artist.
The service began with a haunting recording of McCready's "I'll See You Yesterday," the last song she recorded before her death at 37.

On The X Factor Wednesday, the remaining six contestants fought hard – singing first an acoustic version of a hit song and then a song picked by fans – for one of four spots in next week's semi-finals.
Thursday, the results, based on America's votes, will be revealed. And after last week, when the popular Vino Alan was sent home, anything can happen.
CeCe Frey, who seems to be hanging on by a thread, did well with a stripped down version of Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory," earning praise from the usually critical L.A. Reid: "I'm starting to become a fan," he said. Her colorful version of Katy Perry's "Part of Me" was "very entertaining" to Britney Spears, who appreciated that she's having fun on stage.
Boy banders Emblem3 took on "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars, which Britney called "your best performance in the competition." But Demi Lovato remained hard to please. "I used to really, really love you guys," she said before calling them a "down-graded version of the Jonas Brothers." Even with their second song, "Forever Young," which was almost universally praised, Demi wished they had commanded the stage more.

Forget the candlelit dinner for two: Trisha Yearwood says she and hubby Garth Brooks plan to make their five-year anniversary celebration on Friday a family event.
"When we got married five years ago we married the girls, so the five of us always celebrate together," she told PEOPLE at the Women of Worth Awards in New York City on Thursday.
Yearwood is step-mom to Brooks's three teenage daughters – Taylor, August and Allie – and said the whole family has big plans for the anniversary they'll be celebrating back home in Oklahoma.
"We're going to see Tangled," she revealed. "We all talked about it and said, 'Let's go see a movie.' We all actually really want to see it, and none of our children are young young."
The anniversary event is a bit of a prelude to their upcoming country Christmas, which Yearwood said will feature "family, home, just being together – and cooking."

Trisha Yearwood knows the secret to keeping her family close: Eating together.
"When I was growing up, suppertime, as we called it, was when the family got together around the table – that was our family time," the country singer tells Redbook in its April issue. "Those dinners are some of the best memories of my childhood."
An accomplished chef and cookbook author herself – her latest book, Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood, arrives in stores in April – Yearwood and hubby Garth Brooks keep up the same family mealtime tradition at their Oklahoma ranch.
"Having dinner together is something Garth and I have worked at making sure we do, because it's too easy these days not to," she says. "Now we're all going to sit down and the cells are going to be turned off and there are not going to be any iPods playing into anyone's ears. It's time for family."

Garth Brooks to Sue Oklahoma Hospital for $500,000

"Unanswered Prayers" singer Garth Brooks says that his quest to make his mother's name "More Than a Memory" at an Oklahoma hospital has gone unfulfilled – and he's suing the medical center for $500,000 as a result.
Four years ago, the recently out-of-retirement country crooner says, he gave Integris Canadian Valley Regional hospital in Yukon, Okla., the half million dollars to finance a building that would bear the name of his mother, Colleen Brooks, who died of cancer in 1999.
But, according to a court filing by Brooks, 47, the hospital never included the promised building in a $27 million expansion project, leaving CVR in breach of contract, TMZ reports.
