Garth Brooks has a new career: Mr. Mom.

While on CBS's Early Show Thursday to promote her new album, Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love, Brooks's wife, Trisha Yearwood, addressed Brooks's latest endeavor.

"He's a great dad, you know. He loves his girls and he realizes that it's important to be there every day," said Yearwood, 43, referring to the 46-year-old Brooks's children from his first marriage: Taylor, 15; August, 14; and Allie, 11. Chart-topping country star Trisha Yearwood has scored another success – as a bestselling author.

Her new cookbook, Trisha Yearwood's Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen, hit No. 3 on the New York Times Bestseller List this week in the "Advice, How-To & Miscellaneous" category. It's the week's top selling cookbook. In a statement, Yearwood said she was "overwhelmed" by the response.

Co-authored with her mother, Gwen, and sister Beth, the book began as a scrapbook of favorite family recipes put together for Trisha, 43, when she moved to Oklahoma to live with husband Garth Brooks, 46. Specialties include Gwen's Fried Chicken with Milk Gravy, Daddy's Biscuits and Just-Married Pound Cake.

Garth Brooks to Blaze in Special Concerts

Originally posted 01/25/2008 12:30PM

Garth Brooks will fight fire with five concerts, including one that'll be seen on the CBS special Garth Brooks: Live in L.A.! Friday at 9 p.m. ET.

The live concerts, to be played over two days at the Los Angeles Staples Center, will benefit the Southern California 2008 Fire Intervention Relief Effort (F.I.R.E.), and comes in the wake of last October's raging wildfires that struck the Southland.

Obviously Brooks, 45, strikes a chord with fans: Having sold 85,000 tickets in less than an hour, the country singer-songwriter – who retired from touring in 1998 – is the only artist in Staples Center history to sell out five concerts in one hour and play five concerts in two days.

Garth Brooks has cleaned out his closet, giving some of what he found to the Smithsonian in the nation's capital, reports The Washington Post's Reliable Source column. Among the donations: a reconstructed smashed guitar from a 1991 TV appearance, a Western-style concert outfit (including black elephant-skin boots), handwritten lyrics on a yellow legal pad and some plaques for sales milestones, including one adorned by a gold-painted audio cassette tape.

"To say that I'm flattered would not be enough," the semi-retired singer, 45, said of his inclusion in the American archive. "I always thought that when this happened you'd feel like Elvis, and I don't."

He added, "All I can think of while they're taking me around here is, 'What the hell am I doing in here?' " – Stephen M. Silverman
