Hayden Panettiere Calls Debut Album 'Eclectic'

Originally posted 07/15/2008 03:30PM

Hayden Panettiere is gearing up for one superhuman task – releasing her first album.

The Heroes star played her first single, "Wake Up Call," on Ryan Seacrest's KISS-FM radio show Tuesday – and opened up about the "very different, very diverse" songs comprising the album.

"They're a little bit eclectic," Panettiere, 18, said. The actress described the experience of hearing her music on the radio as "scary" and "terrifying," but told the talk show host that she's put a lot of effort into the songs on her debut disc. In fact, the project has been four years in the making.

Hayden Panettiere Awarded For Efforts to Save Dolphins

Originally posted 03/30/2008 05:00PM

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere cried Saturday night as the Humane Society gave her an activism award for protesting the annual dolphin slaughter in Southwestern Japan last year.

Hayden received the Gretchen Wyler Award, given annually at the Genesis Awards to a celebrity who brings attention to animal causes. Wyler, who founded the awards and was also an actress, died last May from breast cancer, two months after presenting the first award to Paul McCartney.

Hayden’s parents and her boyfriend – and Heroes costar – Milo Ventimiglia were in the audience and watched a video of the actress and others paddling out on surfboards and confronting fishermen, who trap and kill dolphins to protect their fish supply. They then gave a standing ovation as Hayden took the stage.

Hayden Panettiere: People Think I'm Going to 'Screw Up'

Originally posted 03/10/2008 12:35PM

Hayden Panettiere is aware that many young Hollywood stars get tripped up by pitfalls of fame – but says she's not one of them.

"I think that people look at me as just another one of those girls who's going to screw up, like 'She's going to get into drugs, and she's going to get into the parties,' " the 18-year-old Heroes star tells Cosmopolitan magazine in its April issue. "I have the occasional glass of champagne when I'm celebrating something, but generally, I don't drink. I'm a pizza-and-a-movie girl."

Hayden Panettiere: I Like a Driven Guy

Guys hoping to steal Hayden Panettiere away from her Heroes costar Milo Ventimiglia should not lack for one attribute: ambition.

"I have to be with someone who is very driven," Panettiere, 18, tells Seventeen magazine for its April issue. "When they're not, it becomes difficult."

Whether or not that played into last fall's cooling down of her relationship with Laguna Beach hunk Stephen Colletti, she doesn't quite say.

But Panettiere does concede, "I knew I was at the point where I knew I needed to figure things out. I needed to learn more about myself because I'm a little confused at the moment. And I don't think I could ever fully give myself to somebody until I do."

Hayden Panettiere's New Album: Pop, Rock and R&B?

Originally posted 02/22/2008 01:00PM

There's a new Hero coming to your record store – but what musical styles are really inspiring Hayden Panettiere these days?

"Like pop, rock – maybe more of an R&B thing," the 18-year-old actress-activist (and now singer) told PEOPLE Thursday at the Stuart Weitzman Oscar suite in West Hollywood. "I have such eclectic tastes in music. I love rock, hip-hop, I like pop. I love Natasha Bedingfield and [singer-songwriter] Anna Nalick."

Panettiere's debut CD will hit stores this spring on Hollywood Records, according to her MySpace page – which also features a sampling of her already-released pop-rock tunes, including "Try," "Your New Girlfriend" and "I Still Believe."

Milo: Romance Talk with Hayden 'Makes Me Smile'

Milo Ventimiglia has remained pretty tight-lipped about his relationship with Heroes costar Hayden Panettiere – but in the new issue of GQ the actor says it doesn't bother him when people gossip about his romantic life.

"You know what, man – it makes me smile," Ventimiglia tells GQ, when told by the reporter that bloggers have nicknamed the couple "Halo."

Smiles aside, the actor still maintains he wants to keep a lid on his private life. "When you're in the public eye, you try to keep whatever you can private," he says. "People can speculate and talk. But what can you do – stop living your life?"

Hayden Panettiere Speaks Out at D.C. Whale Rally

Originally posted 01/28/2008 08:00AM

Hayden Panettiere made a splash Sunday at a downtown Washington, D.C., demonstration that called for a stop to whale hunting.

The 18-year-old Heroes star, speaking without notes, told the crowd, "Not only are these animals being cruelly slaughtered, the meat is contaminated by huge levels of mercury," reports The Washington Post's Reliable Source column, which likened the Heroes star to a latter-day Jane Fonda – though less politically controversial.
