FIRST LOOK: Poster for Hilary Swank's Amelia

Hilary Swank stars as one of aviation's most beloved and inspiring figures, Amelia Earhart, in Amelia – and People.com has a first look at the highly-anticipated film's official poster.
Swank is dramatically posed in front of a plane with only the wings and propellers visible beyond her profile. The film follows Earhart's journey from unknown amateur aviator to America's sweetheart and finally to her world-renowned mission around the world and disappearance in 1937.
Also starring in film: Richard Gere, who plays Earhart's husband, George P. Putnam, and Ewan McGregor, who is Earhart's friend and lover, Gene Vidal.
Amelia, directed by Mira Nair, hits theaters Oct. 23.

She's taken on transgendered teens and female boxers, so it only seems fitting that 34-year-old actress Hilary Swank bust the gender barrier again on the silver screen – this time as legendary aviatrix Amelia Earhart, in the upcoming movie Amelia.
The movie, directed by The Namesake director Mira Nair, is expected to be released Oct. 23, and also stars Richard Gere as Earhart's husband, George Putnam, and Ewan McGregor as her lover Gene Vidal.
The real-life Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, and garnered even more fame when she and navigator Fred Noonan disappeared in the South Pacific while attempting to fly around the world.

Hilary Swank Briefly Hospitalized

Hilary Swank is recuperating after undergoing a minor medical procedure at the hospital, her manager tells PEOPLE exclusively.
The Oscar-winning actress, 34, was “experiencing some discomfort and went to see her doctor, who prescribed an immediate course of action that included a brief hospitalization to remove a small, benign growth," manager Jason Weinberg says.
"Her condition has been resolved and there are no continuing health issues, with the exception of some short-term rest and recuperation," he says.
No other details were provided.

Oscar-winner Hilary Swank says Oscar night really works up an appetite so she comes prepared. When asked on the red carpet why she has dashed to Astro Burger after the awards show for the past two years, she explained, "It's because you're starving!"
But this year she came prepared. Dressed in Versace, the actress showed Ryan Seacrest the contents of her little black bag. Inside? Nuts!
"I already ate the cake," she said.

Hilary Swank has deemed her short new haircut, fashioned by Oprah Winfrey as part of a televised charity effort, to be a resounding success.
"If this talk-show-acting-producing stuff for you doesn't work out, you have a whole new career in haircutting," Swank told Winfrey on her talk show Friday, showing off Winfrey's work with the shears – a stylish new cut that falls just to the nape of her neck.
