Kym Johnson's Emotional Return to Dancing with the Stars

Originally posted 05/16/2011 10:15PM

A silence fell over the ballroom as the TV monitors showed a video of a Kym Johnson's horrible fall during rehearsals last week that threatened to knock her out of Dancing with the Stars – or worse.

In the gut-wrenching footage, Johnson was rehearsing with Hines Ward when she landed on her head and Ward fell on top of her. As she lay in a ball on the floor, she cried, "I can't feel my arms."

Johnson was rushed to the hospital and, after tests, doctors released her to compete again, though she practiced with a neck brace. Monday night, she and her Pittsburgh Steeler partner danced the tango. Read on for more details.

Kym Johnson Is Cleared by the Doctor to Perform

Originally posted 05/16/2011 05:15PM

Even though she suffered a neck injury during rehearsals Friday, Kym Johnson will perform three routines with her partner Hines Ward at the Dancing with the Stars semifinals on Monday night.

"Kym was cleared by the doctor this morning and will be dancing with Hines Ward on the show tonight," her rep, Jane Negline, tells PEOPLE.

All weekend long Johnson rehearsed with Ward while wearing a neck brace.

"Man, Kym is a SOLDIER! She's dancing in her neck brace and will not quit!" Ward posted on his Facebook page Sunday afternoon. "I want to do my best for her because she's busted her tail to get me where I am today. To me, she is one of us and exemplifies the Steeler way. So thanks [for] the prayers and continue to keep voting for us because every point counts. When we get thru this week because of your VOTES, we intend to bring home the Mirror Ball!"

Hines Ward has been letting loose on Dancing with the Stars, but he was considerably more restrained – handcuffed, in fact – during a traffic stop in Los Angeles early Thursday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers star, 35, and the female driver of the car were briefly handcuffed after police believed the vehicle was stolen, says TMZ.com. In fact, the driver herself had reported the car stolen, and had failed to alert police when she recovered it.

"It was an obvious mistake," Ward's rep, Andrew Ree, tells PEOPLE of the situation. "The police were doing their job."
