As Michael Clarke Duncan lay in the hospital after a heart attack, those closest to him found reason to cling to the belief that he would survive.

None more so than his fiancé, Omarosa Manigault, who kept vigil for more than a month.

"He fought, he fought really, really hard," their friend Holly Robinson Peete tells Access Hollywood.. "I saw him open his eyes ... There were moments of hope. There was a lot of hope and [Manigault] was not giving up on him."

Lisa Rinna had no shortage of celebrity guests come out to celebrate her 49th birthday on Thursday night at her and hubby Harry Hamlin's Los Angeles home.

Joined by her usual group of gal pals – including Denise Richards, Maria Menounos, Nancy O'Dell, Holly Robinson Peete, Garcelle Beauvais and Angelina Jolie's stylist Jen Rade – Rinna treated her 30 attendees to a Mexican-themed fiesta produced by Good Carma Studio in her backyard.

Kitchit chef Meg Hall was on hand to present a generous menu, which included shrimp and guacamole tostadas, chorizo-stuffed squash blossoms, shishito peppers and key lime pie shooters.

"Lisa's daughters and dog were in the kitchen a lot," a source tells PEOPLE. "There were some special items made for her daughter Amelia, [who doesn't eat gluten]. The kitchen was the gathering spot for most of the other guests, too. Garcelle and Denise were in there most of the evening, chatting about their kids."

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne's new dog, Charlie, isn't the only one who benefited from the modest sum of $10,000 that the couple paid for him at an auction last month. Holly Robinson Peete's HollyRod Foundation, which helps families coping with autism and Parkinson's disease, also got a boost from the charitable purchase.

"Let me tell you something, that was one of the best moments of our event," Robinson Peete told PEOPLE at Wednesday's 11th Annual Harold Pump Foundation Gala in Los Angeles. "The fact that [Ozzy] even showed up was amazing, and I didn't even even expect him to stay that long. But he enjoyed himself, he had a good time, and when he bought the dog it was just such a great moment."

Holly Robinson Peete: John Mayer's Apology to Me Fell Short

Originally posted 02/12/2010 09:00PM

When Holly Robinson Peete was told by a friend that John Mayer – a musician her whole family admired – had called her "gorgeous" in a Playboy interview, she blushed and even told E! in a widely reported interview that she felt flattered.

But the apparent compliment turned sour when Robinson Peete read the full interview, complete with his statement about African American women and his use of the N-word. "I was disgusted and offended," says Robinson Peete, who herself had faced criticism from some who felt she had initially been an apologist for Mayer.

Robinson Peete reveals to PEOPLE that Mayer has reached out to her to apologize for involving her in his firestorm, but not for his actual words. The actress says it's "time for him to really just drop the frat boy act" and "take responsibility for these hurtful comments."
