In his 22 years hosting The Tonight Show, Jay Leno crafted a winning formula: a bit of silliness, crossed with snark, and delivered with an utter lack of pretension.

As Leno prepares to hang up his Tonight Show spurs Thursday night, let's look back on some of the highlights of his decades-long tenure, from his news-making interviews to his 4,600 jokes about Bill Clinton:

Spy satellites and evil forces are just a few of the elements that will be found in complex new roles for Bradley Cooper and Johnny Depp.

Cooper has been tapped to join Emma Stone in Cameron Crowe's new film, Deep Tiki – a film that combines Hawaiian mythical folklore, love and war – Deadline.com reports.

Depp has signed on to play the lead role in Transcendence, which will mark the directorial debut of Inception cinematographer Wally Pfister, set to begin shooting next year, the Hollywood Reporter says. The plot has Depp's character being sucked into an evil computer that he created.

Why Hugh Grant Decided to Act Again

Move over, Johnny Depp: There's an even nuttier pirate captain hitting Hollywood's high seas.

For the new movie Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant took on his first animated role – and enjoyed the perks of voice work. "It was nice not to have to sit in makeup at 5 in the morning," he says. "I do feel bored of that."

Did he wear pajamas to work? "As ever," he cracks, "I was elegantly and appropriately dressed."

Still, playing an unhinged captain trying to whip a ship full of not-exactly-cutthroat pirates into shape was a challenge. "I was never properly trained so I don't use my diaphragm to shout," Grant says. "I would go hoarse and they'd have to send me home. I used to lose my voice after about 20 minutes."

Katy Perry, Leo DiCaprio or Hugh Grant: Who Looks Best in Old-Age Makeup?

Originally posted 11/15/2011 09:30AM

Ever wonder what Katy Perry, Leonardo DiCaprio or Hugh Grant might look like in their golden years?

Now we know, thanks to the magic of the makeup chair.

Perry, 27, was transformed into what she describes as the "grandma" version of herself in her new music video for "The One That Got Away."

DiCaprio, 37, put on 40 years for J. Edgar, the biopic of the FBI's founding director, while new dad Hugh Grant, 51, tacked on decades thanks to the special-effects makeup he sports on the German set of his sci-fi flick Cloud Atlas.

Hugh Grant: The Magic of Movie Makeup

Looking a whole lot like Dennis Hopper (or even the $20 bill-gracing former president Andrew Jackson), Hugh Grant has been virtually unrecognizable on the German set of his upcoming movie, Cloud Atlas.

In addition to the normally-dashing new dad, 51, the upcoming sci-fi flick also stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Susan Sarandon.

No word yet on the plot particulars, but the project has already been quite an adventure. In September, Berry broke her foot while chasing after a goat on a break from filming in Spain.

Be careful out there, Hugh!

Hugh Grant has become a dad after the birth of his first child, a daughter, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.

"I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl," the rep says in a statement.

"He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms."

The longtime bachelor, 51, who famously dated Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years, then Jemima Khan for three, has not revealed who the mother is. He was last romantically linked to Chinese actress Tinglan Hong.

INSIDE STORY: What Motivated Hugh Grant to Expose Phone Hacking

Why Hugh Grant Exposed British Media's Phone Hacking

Originally posted 07/13/2011 01:00PM

Hugh Grant may have good reason to feel personally violated by the unfolding phone-hacking scandal in Britain. But the actor tells PEOPLE he went public in helping to expose the scheme because of a much larger sense of outrage.

"The crusade against the people who hacked my phone is just the beginning of it," Grant, 50, says in a new interview. "I don't think I would be on a crusade if it weren't for the fact that … they were winked at by the police, and winked at by our government."

Grant is among those calling for a full investigation into the alleged phone hacking by journalists in Rupert Murdoch's media empire – to determine just how widespread the corruption has been. "Although a lot of my stuff comes from personal grievance, I also am properly outraged for my country," he says.

Hugh Grant Helps Expose News of the World

Publishing executive James Murdoch announced on Thursday that the well-known tabloid News of the World would be shutting down amid a phone-hacking scandal.

And it involved none other than actor and tabloid regular Hugh Grant.

Grant, 50, tells the BBC that on one occasion, when News of the World features editor Paul McMullan took photos of him, he also boasted about how Grant's phone had been hacked – allegedly by the tabloid.

"I was revolted and astonished," says the British star, who then took matters into his own hands.
