LeRoy Neiman, the prolific artist whose dynamically colored paintings and sketches celebrated heroic figures of sports, entertainment and the good life, died Wednesday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, his publicist confirmed to PEOPLE. He was 91.
"His wife [of more than 50 years] Janet and some loved ones were at his bedside," the rep said.
Cutting an eye-catching figure with his wide mustache and long cigar, Neiman was a larger-than-life yet approachable figure who epitomized the magazine with which he had a long association, Playboy – both in his personal style and that of his art.

The runaway bunny's back.
Crystal Harris, who left Hugh Hefner at the altar with a parting shot about his bedroom skills – calling him two-second man – is back at the Playboy mansion, and all seems good – for now.
"Yes I am his #1 girl again," she Tweeted on Friday, confirming reports of a reconciliation. "Yes we are happy. Hope that clears up any confusion! Xo."
Harris, 26, a onetime Playmate of the Month, and Hefner, 86, broke up in dramatic style in June 2011 with Harris calling off their wedding just days before the nuptials with 300 invited guests.

Hugh Hefner's New Year's resolution may be to remain a bachelor, but when it comes to another holiday, the Playboy mogul is all about being in love.
"I'm a romantic, and Valentine's Day is the holiday for the romantics," Hefner, 85, tells PEOPLE. "Love and attraction between the sexes makes the world go 'round. Some people think religion is the civilizing force, but I think love is the civilizing force."
Tuesdays at the Playboy Mansion are typically reserved for game nights consisting of Dominos and cards, but Hefner is making an exception this week in honor of the holiday, at the request of his girlfriends Shera Berchard and Anna Berglund.
"We're going out to dinner," he says. We're going to eat Italian. We're going to Valentino [restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif.]"

Almost exactly one year ago, Hugh Hefner popped the question to then-girlfriend Crystal Harris – but following the rollercoaster of events, including a breakup, that took place since the proposal, the Playboy mogul says his goal for 2012 is to do what he does best: stay unwed.
"This year has been a very interesting year for me, I almost got married," Hefner, 85, recently told PEOPLE at the Playboy Mansion.

Shortly after Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris ended their engagement in June, the Playboy mogul said Harris let him keep Charlie, their shared Cavalier King Charles spaniel.
But now, Hefner, 85, says he and his former fiancée, 25, are still going back and forth about who gets permanent ownership of the pooch.
"We both love the puppy," Hefner told PEOPLE on Thursday at the Playboy Mansion in L.A. "I told her if she wants to keep the ring and the Bentley, then maybe I can keep the puppy. I [hope] we will work it out."

Hugh Hefner believes Lindsay Lohan's Marilyn Monroe-themed Playboy pictorial will be a keepsake – but the media mogul admits he initially had doubts about featuring the embattled actress on its cover.
"The concept came from my editors," Hefner, 85, told PEOPLE during a recent interview at the Playboy Mansion in L.A.
"I had mixed emotions to begin with," he said. "I could not have anticipated, quite frankly, that it would turn out to be such a sensational newsworthy event, or that the pictorial would turn out so well."

The he said-she said continues.
It seemed like the war of words ended in July between Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris after the Playboy founder said his former fiancée "lied" when she told Howard Stern they only had sex once – and that it lasted "like two seconds."
But months later, Hefner, 85, is elaborating on Harris's comments, claiming that the couple, whose wedding she called off in June, "had sex once a week" when they were together.
"We had sex with her and a girlfriend," Hefner tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We had sex the first night that we met with another girl, and it was such a nice relationship that I kept them both over for a weekend."

Kendra Wilkinson remembers landing in hot water for exposing her days as Hugh Hefner's girlfriend in her tell-all Sliding Into Home – but the former Girls Next Door star believes her comments were far less hurtful than those of Hef's former wife-to-be, Crystal Harris.
"Her situation is a lot more harsh," Wilkinson, 26, told PEOPLE at Monday's NBCUniversal Press Tour All-Star party in L.A. "She was about to get married to him. I would have never agreed to get married to him."
Even though Wilkinson's book laid bare her sex-life with the Playboy mogul, 85, she says she would never go out of her way to hurt Hef the way Harris, 24, did when she gossiped with Howard Stern last week about Hefner's sexual prowess – or lack thereof.
