Jack Wagner: Heather Locklear and I 'Still Love Each Other Very Much'

They didn't get a happy ending together like the characters they played on Melrose Place, but it seems to be an amicable breakup for Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner.
They "still love each other very much," Wagner, 52, says, according to TMZ.com. Their decision to call off the engagement, which they announced Tuesday, was in the interest of their respective families.
The actor says they didn't have enough time to spend with their children because they were planning their wedding. He and Locklear also decided, he adds, that they didn't want to blend their families because their kids were too young and it would be disruptive.

Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner's Melrose Place characters wed on TV almost a decade ago, but there is no real-life marriage in the works for the actors who played Amanda Woodward and Peter Burns.
"Jack and Heather are no longer engaged," Locklear's rep tells PEOPLE.
The longtime couple, who got engaged in August, had Locklear's daughter Ava's stamp of approval.

When Heather Locklear announced in August that she was getting hitched to her longtime boyfriend, actor Jack Wagner, she wasn't the only one happy about the upcoming nuptials.
Her 14-year-old daughter, Ava – dad is rocker Richie Sambora – is equally thrilled about her mom's big day.
"Ava was so excited when we told her," Locklear, 50, says in PEOPLE's new special issue Gorgeous At Any Age.
"She hugged Jack, said congratulations, and she immediately wanted to see the ring. Then she ran and Facebooked her new stepbrother."
"I want her to do what makes her happy," explains Ava. "That's the main point."

Life's a beach for Heather Locklear!
Looking fabulous at 50, the actress spent her birthday vacationing in Hawaii with fiancé Jack Wagner.
The former Melrose Place costars were photographed strolling barefoot along the windy shoreline with their arms around each other, appearing relaxed and tan. Locklear looked spectacular in a black bikini with a sheer black cover-up over it, while Wagner, 51, wore a bathing suit and a T-shirt.
The pair announced their engagement in August, but have not confirmed a date for the wedding.

The Melrose Place alum, who turns 50 in September, is set to wed her longtime boyfriend, actor Jack Wagner, 51, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

Heather Locklear is having an on-again, off-again relationship – with a diamond ring.
The actress has been spotted around L.A. wearing the dazzling bauble on the ring finger of her left hand, including when she arrived at Los Angeles International Airport from a trip to New York City with longtime boyfriend Jack Wagner on June 10. Two nights later, she hit the red carpet at the Crystal and Lucy Awards looking stunning in a green printed Max Mara frock, but sans the sparkler.
On June 14, the ring was back on as Locklear, 47, lunched in Beverly Hills with Wagner, 49, her daughter Ava, 11, and a pal of Ava's, but she quickly slipped it off when she noticed photographers outside the restaurant, says an observer.

Still receiving treatment for anxiety and depression at an Arizona facility, Heather Locklear's recent visit from her boyfriend Jack Wagner "really lifted her spirits," says a close pal.
Wagner – who hadn't seen Locklear since she left Los Angeles for the facility on June 19 – spent several hours with her last weekend, sources say. On Sunday, the two had lunch together in the facility's dining area.
"He looked like he was taking care of her," says an observer. "It was very sweet."
