The 90210 alum – who was honored at the 2nd Annual Save a Child's Heart West Coast Celebration with the Compassionate Heart Award for her dedication to heart disease education – revealed on Sunday how newlywed life is treating her.
The couple tied the knot on July 11 at Garth's six-acre ranch in Los Olivos, California, and the actress told PEOPLE that she and Abrams, 34, are "so excited" as they approach the one-year anniversary of their first meeting.
As for married life itself, "I've been married twice before, but it's never like this, and we're really happy," continued Garth, 43. She added that her first two marriage "were great in their own ways, but this one I just lucked out to be able to be so happy and to really realize that kind of love."

When Jennie Garth's mommy-friend asked if she'd go on a blind double date with her, her boyfriend and his buddy Dave Abrams, the actress thought, 'Sure, why not?' I thought, 'I'll just go for dating practice,' " Garth tells PEOPLE exclusively.
"I looked him up online, and he shared a name with a real beefcake-y male stripper, and I was like, 'Oh no!' But luckily it wasn't him."
Meanwhile, Abrams assumed he didn't really stand a chance. "I didn't think I had a shot," says Abrams, 34. "But I went."
It's a good thing, too. The couple hit it off that first night – and neither ever looked back.

Some brides prep for their wedding by getting massages and mani-pedis. Jennie Garth hangs lanterns, hand-paints signs and helps rewire outdoor chandeliers.
And that's just the tip of a gloriously jam-packed To Do list the actress, 43, – and self-professed DIY fanatic – tackled in the days leading up to her July 11 nuptials to actor Dave Abrams.
Her hard work paid off. By the time the roughly 120 guests arrived at Garth's bucolic six-acre ranch in Los Olivos, California, they were treated to a romantic and vintage-inspired wonderland: flowers freshly picked from her garden, antique doors and lace from her mother's collection hanging from wires in the open air and homemade touches throughout the rambling property.
