Originally posted 05/11/2012 07:40PM

Jennie Garth doesn't hold back in a new clip from her CMT reality show, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country.

Sitting in a circle with two women and her therapist, a teary-eyed Garth, 40, talks about the "sadness" and "anger" she feels about Peter Facinelli filing for divorce in March.

"I think with any sort of rejection, you're angry that you weren't enough for that person," she says in the episode airing Friday at 9 p.m. "So I don't know if I'm angry at myself for not being enough, or if I'm angry at him for not considering me to be enough."

Letting go after she found out her husband Peter Facinelli wanted a divorce was tough for Jennie Garth, but the actress says her menagerie of farm animals – which includes four dogs, two goats, five cats, two miniature horses and a pig – have helped get her to a happier place.

"Having all these animals fills a void for me because I'm kind of going through a rough time right now," she said on the premiere of her new CMT show, Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country. "The animals give you unconditional love, and that feels good."

Jennie Garth can talk about her divorce from Peter Facinelli, but weeks after turning 40, there's one thing she says she won't be sharing: her birthday wish.

However, now that she's marked the milestone, she says she's discovered a sense of certainty and confidence.

"What a great time in a woman's life. I wasn't sure what was going to happen or how I was going to feel about it," the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star told reporters Thursday. "But now having turned the corner, it's really empowering."

That inner strength has come in handy. "I have been working toward that, pulling that strength up for a few years now, going through everything that I have been going through," she added. "I really feel that I am in touch with it now."

Jennie Garth: People Want to Talk About My Divorce

Originally posted 04/17/2012 02:00PM

Although she can't say she's happy to discuss her divorce from Peter Facinelli, Jennie Garth does find the topic is unavoidable.

"That is probably the hardest part about [the split], actually, the timing of everything," the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star said on Today Tuesday while promoting her new CMT reality show.

"When I started to take this show on, I wasn't headed down this road," Garth, 39, says about her marital split after the couple were together for 17 years in all, 11 of them as man and wife.

"It happened in the middle of filming the show, and now part of doing any kind of job as an actress is following through and doing the press circuit for the show, doing interviews, and people want to talk about it.

"And, I am okay talking about it, but it's certainly not ... something you want to talk about."

A cool leather jacket, gently tousled hair and a cocktail: These were the props for Peter Facinelli's night out on the town a week after filing for divorce from wife Jennie Garth.

Just after 8 p.m. Thursday night, Facinelli arrived solo a Hennessy-sponsored party at the Highline Studios in New York City. Wearing slate-gray jeans and a black leather jacket, the sedate-looking actor, 38, posed for photos on the black carpet before heading inside the party.

Facinelli spent time mingling and engaged in earnest conversation with an older male pal while lounging on a sofa in a roped-off V.I.P area.

Jennie Garth: I Tried to Save Our Marriage

When Peter Facinelli told Jennie Garth last fall that he wanted a divorce, she at first refused to give in.

"I was very resistant," she tells PEOPLE in an exclusive new interview. "I didn't want it to happen. It took me some time to come to peace with it."

The couple, who wed in 2001, always had what looked like a storybook marriage. Parents to daughters Luca, 14, Lola, 9 and Fiona, 5, they dubbed themselves the Facinelli Five and reveled in family traditions that included camping in an RV, family movie nights and bingo tournaments.

But over the past two years, as Facinelli's career was taking off (he plays Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the Twilight series and is a regular on Showtime's Nurse Jackie), the couple began spending more time apart.
