The phrase "ladies who lunch" got turbocharged on Monday when Cosmopolitan's editor-in-chief Joanna Coles assembled a posse of powerful women – including Sarah Jessica Parker, Rose McGowan, Diane von Furstenberg, Jennifer Westfeldt and Gayle King – for a mid-day meal at Michael's in New York.
Dressed in a leather jacket and pleated skirt, Parker was taken aback by the buzz in the room, which also included several newly elected Congresswomen.
"There are a few women [here] that I've known for a number of years and I'm a great admirer of," she told PEOPLE. "If they're powerful, that's just a byproduct. But I don't think of them that way. I just think of them as great women that I'm fortunate to know."
Westfeldt – who wrote and directed 2011's Friends with Kids – confessed that she power lunches "almost never."
"I'm a meal skipper, bagel on-the-run person," she said.
But as any power luncher knows, food is hardly the point.
As King put it, "I walk around this room and I feel good about being a girl."

Jennifer Westfeldt may be dating one of Hollywood's hunkiest guys– Jon Hamm – but she admits to feeling butterflies over some other big talents: Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph.
Westfeldt, who wrote, directed, produced and stars in the new romantic drama Friends with Kids out on Friday, got close to the Bridesmaids stars while working on the new film.
"I have the biggest crush on both of them," Westfeldt, 42, tells PEOPLE.
"They are the kindest, most loving and supremely talented women. I respect these women so much."

Jon Hamm may play serious on Mad Men, but he's hamming it up for the kids.
The actor, along with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and their German shepherd mix, Cora, are literally getting animated thanks to their guest-starring roles on the PBS KIDS show Martha Speaks. Hamm plays an actor named Ham Johnson, who joins Kit Luntanne (Westfeldt), a fellow player in a traveling acting troupe, on the road, where they meet Martha, the series's talking dog and namesake.

Walking through their Los Feliz, Calif., neighborhood, the trio took in sunshine, and afterward, Hamm pulled Westfeldt in for a romantic kiss.

Jon Hamm Helps Girlfriend Dress for Emmy Night

Jennifer Westfeldt is Emmy-ready as far as her Sunday-night outfit is concerned – for which she credits boyfriend Jon Hamm, star of the much-nominated Mad Men.
"He's got a good eye," the actress-screenwriter, 38, told PEOPLE at Friday's Academy of Television & Sciences party for the acting nominees – of which the hunky Hamm is one. "You'd be surprised.
"Plus," she said, "I wanted to wear something he loves, so I feel so happy with it now. There were so many I could have worn and been delighted to wear, but every dress has a different vibe."
Modest about the role he played in helping Westfeldt select her outfit, Hamm, 37, told PEOPLE that he simply "gave my opinion. You know, I’m not qualified to make the decision on those levels."
