• Who would Lindsay Lohan be if she didn't mix work and play? The actress, who arrived in Miami for a Plum magazine shoot, hit the town with little sis Ali and a mini-entourage for dinner at The Forge. Lohan – who recently failed an alcohol test – passed up the wine at her table, opting to enjoy pomegranate lamb spare ribs and Alaskan crab legs. "Lindsay looked fabulous and was polite, sweet and friendly to everyone at the restaurant," a source tells PEOPLE. After dinner, Lohan split from her sister to party off the dinner calories at LIV nightclub in the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel.

Celebs are partying like it's 1929!

Retro hot spots like New York City's supper club the Darby – where Gerard Butler had his birthday party recently and Prince threw a star-studded concert afterparty – have become essential stops on the celebrity nightlife circuit. On the West Coast, newly opened Hollywood hangout Hemingway's has put a Prohibition-era twist on cocktail culture.

But you don't have to go out to experience the booming cocktail culture. The owners of the New York restaurant Employees Only have compiled a book of drink recipes, titled Speakeasy, straight out of the Jazz Age. That's when "American cocktails were at their peak," says co-author Jason Kosmas.

Music and laugher kicked off the 2010 Academy Awards from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. In a non-traditional first, the show actually opened with the 10 Best Actor and Actress nominees introduced alphabetically before escorts rose from the audience and guided them to their seats.

Then the fun began.

Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the Tonys and Emmys last year, delivered the show's opening musical number, "No One Wants to Do It Alone," essentially setting the stage for hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin – who spent their opening dialogue poking fun at the top nominees who had just been seated.

"There's that damn Helen Mirren," said Martin – prompting Baldwin to say, "Steve, that's Dame Helen Mirren."

There will be a whole lot of green on the red carpet Sunday night. No, the procession into the 2010 Academy Awards isn't getting a makeover. This year's pool of nominees are just a fresh-faced bunch of newcomers!

The first-time Oscar nominees are as varied as their roles. From Christoph Waltz, who is the favorite among best supporting actor contenders for his role as an evil Nazi colonel in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, to Mo'Nique, who is the front runner in the best supporting actress category for playing an abusive mother in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.

Her competition includes film alum Maggie Gyllenhaal for Crazy Heart and big-screen newbie Anna Kendrick for Up in the Air. The best actress race also has some young blood: An Education's Carey Mulligan and Precious's Gabourey Sidibe, who was an unknown receptionist before landing this, her first, role.

The Academy's votes will be revealed Sunday night. But now it's your turn:

Step aside, Jessica Simpson! First-time nominee Jeremy Renner is bringing his mom, Valerie Clearley, as his Oscar date Sunday.

"He keeps me calm," Clearley told PEOPLE at Thursday's Hollywood Reporter pre-Oscar bash in L.A. "I'm the nervous one. He's been to [award shows] before. I haven't. It's crazy!"

Renner, 39, a best actor nominee for The Hurt Locker, gave his mother an early taste of what to expect at the Academy Awards during Thursday's reception, held at mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's official residence. The two navigated the red carpet before TV crews descended on Renner, who has emerged as one of Hollywood's new leading men after his star turn in the Iraq war drama.
