Originally posted 01/10/2013 08:15AM
This year's Oscars may not take place until Feb. 24, but the ceremony's host, Seth MacFarlane, already started earning his salary Thursday morning – by joining Emma Stone to announce the nominees for the 85th annual Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' headquarters in Beverly Hills.
And the name that kept coming up: Lincoln, which reaped the lion's share number of nominations, 12, including those for Best Picture, Best Director Steven Spielberg, Best Actor Daniel Day-Lewis and Supporting Actress Sally Field.
Other highly recognized films were Life of Pi, with 11 nominations; Les Misérables, with nine; and Argo, with seven, though, surprisingly, not one for its director Ben Affleck.

Zero Dark Thirty Review: Jessica Chastain Has Shot at Oscar
Originally posted 12/09/2012 11:35AM
Success, as they say, has many fathers. In the killing of Osama bin Laden, proud papas from President Obama to SEAL Team 6 earned kudos aplenty – and justifiably so, given the monstrosity of bin Laden's crimes. But with all due respect to all those dads, it's time to meet Mom.
Few people know the identity of the real-life female CIA agent who hunted bin Laden, but Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow calls her Maya in Zero Dark Thirty, which stars Jessica Chastain in the role, as well as Kyle Chandler and Jennifer Ehle. You'll recognize Maya before we've even been properly introduced, because she's the only pretty redhead in Pakistan assisting in the waterboarding of a detainee.

Tom Hardy Gets Cheeky with Jessica Chastain in Cannes
Originally posted 05/31/2012 05:35PM
They were one of the hottest casts to walk the red carpet this year in Cannes. The stars of the western crime drama Lawless gathered for a special PEOPLE shoot, right after their big moment on the steps of the Palais de Festivals on May 19.
Shot steps from the Palais at the Baoli Beach Club before their after-party, the cast includes Guy Pearce, Jason Clarke, Shia LaBeouf (who brought his mother as his date), Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hardy and Dane DeHaan.
The close-knit cast toasted each other and Chastain, a red carpet mainstay this year, who was on the cover of French magazine Gala. When Hardy held up the magazine vertically, pretending that Chastain was a centerfold, the group burst out laughing.
Festival veteran Wasikowska says, "It's always so great here. It's like Hollywood on overload!"

Cannes Film Festival Honors Women in Film
Originally posted 05/18/2012 11:40AM
Actresses from both sides of the pond were honored at an event paying tribute to Women in Film Thursday, as part of the Cannes Film Festival.
Naomi Watts, Jessica Chastain, Diane Kruger, Shailene Woodley and French actress Ludivine Sagnier were the special guests at the event, held at the private mansion Villa St. George and sponsored by Calvin Klein. Chastain and Woodley danced the night away around a candlelit pool, still on their feet past midnight, according to the Associated Press.
Celebrities including David Schwimmer and Chris Rock also attended the event.
Alec Baldwin, in town with fianceé Hilaria Thomas, was also a major presence at the party, a source tells PEOPLE. The actor, who's show 30 Rock will wrap next season, joked to a party guest, "I'm going to be out of work soon, so I'm making all the friends I can."

Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer Get Photo-Bombed in Cannes
Originally posted 05/17/2012 02:15PM
It was a reunion of old (and news) pals when Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett, Chris Rock and David Schwimmer gathered for the photo call for Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes.
"Schwim," Rock (who plays Marty the zebra) yelled when arriving at the same time as his Melman the giraffe costar. But it was Stiller who unknowingly doubled up on "Schwim" as his Alex the lion character photo-bombed the two as they made their way down the Croisette.

This year's nominees of Best Supporting Actress couldn't be more different.
From Melissa McCarthy's hysterical gross-out part in the contemporary comedy Bridesmaids to Bérénice Bejo's romantic role in the mostly silent film The Artist, the nominees run the gamut of characters.
Also up for the Oscar are Janet McTeer in the moving period drama Albert Nobbs, and both Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain in the race-relations drama The Help.
