Monday's episode of The Biggest Loser featured "Cut the Junk" week on campus. Can you believe approximately 17 percent of American children ages 2 to 19 years are obese? How about this fact: approximately 60 percent of overweight children ages 5 to 10 already have at least one risk factor for heart disease? We are all to blame for this – parents, schools, kids – all of us.

During this week's quiz, the contestants were shocked by the staggering statistics, as was I. The childhood obesity epidemic in our country needs to be fixed. I battled with my weight as a teenager, partly because there wasn't the information or conversation about how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Jillian Michaels is back with a vengeance!

The personal trainer, 38, is eager for people to watch her return to reality TV on The Biggest Loser's 14th season on NBC, focusing her attention on the show's overweight youth.

"There were a lot of reasons for why I decided to come back," Michaels told PEOPLE on Wednesday in Pasadena, Calif., during the Television Critics Association's winter tour, naming fellow trainer Bob Harper as part of her motivation.

Oh, dreaded week two! Emotions run high and numbers are typically low at the second weigh-in on The Biggest Loser. Never ones to keep things the same from season to season, it seemed like the prefect time to introduce the outdoor gyms created by each of the trainers.

Dolvett's dungeon pushed his team, but nothing compared to Jillian's gym ... or to Jillian's frustration with her team. As I watched the workout, I felt for Danni and Pam. Jillian's tenacity and relentlessness was hard to watch.

I thought their conversation the next day was really important – and not just for each of them as individuals but for the audience, as well, to help us understand why Jillian fights so hard for, and how to not give up when the going gets tough.

Hopefully you caught the season premiere of The Biggest Loser. If so, you saw what I meant on Friday when I said the reaction to show trainers was euphoric. I have to say, when I first walked onto the stage, I felt the same nervous butterflies that I felt at the first live finale that I hosted in season 4.

I knew we were introducing the kids first, and they were so nervous that I was nervous for them. Then Sunny, Lindsay and Biingo started talking about being part of the show and they immediately warmed my heart with their excitement to get healthy and to change their lives and the lives of their families.

Happy New Year!

I'm in New York for an appearance on Today to talk about the season 14 of The Biggest Loser. Having taken some time between seasons, I have to say, I really missed being on the Ranch and with the show trainers and contestants.

When I introduced Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince to the crowd the first day of production, and then welcomed back Jillian Michaels, the reaction was exhilarating. Then, to welcome such a great group of contestants and surprise the audience with our three kids was AWESOME!

For 13 seasons The Biggest Loser has helped adults from across the country shed pounds, but when season 14 debuts Jan. 6 and 7, the NBC weight-loss series will be tackling the epidemic of child obesity.

"This is not their fault," returning trainer (and new mom) Jillian Michaels tells PEOPLE of the one in three children who, according to national studies, are overweight or obese in the U.S. "This is about an introduction to an active lifestyle and helping them feel better about themselves."

In addition to working with 15 adult contestants, Michaels – along with fellow trainers Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince – will mentor three teenagers who will train predominately at home and will not weigh in on camera.

"It is about reeducating them and working on their goals," Michaels says of working with Sanjana Chandrasekar, Lindsay Bravo and Noah Gray.

Jillian Michaels Will Return to The Biggest Loser

She's back!

Tough-as-nails trainer Jillian Michaels is returning to NBC's The Biggest Loser when the weight-loss competition returns in January for its 14th season.

The new season will also tackle the problem of childhood obesity, adding contestants between the ages of 13 and 17 who will compete alongside adult contestants, according to reports. But the teens won't face elimination on the show and will not be weighed for the broadcast.

Michael's long-awaited return comes after the fitness guru announced in December 2010 that the show's 11th season would be her last. At the time, she told fans, "I want to take a year off TV and focus on becoming a mommy and doing more charity work."
