On May 18, 1985, Dynasty concluded its fifth and highest-ever-rated season with a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers: the Moldavian wedding massacre.
Amanda (Catherine Oxenberg), long-lost daughter to Alexis (Joan Collins) and Blake (John Forsythe), is marching down the aisle, soon to wed Prince Michael (Michael Praed), of the European nation of Moldavia. But before the ceremony can conclude, terrorists spray the chapel with bullets, and the season's final moments show the cast lying bloodied and lifeless – but still looking glamorous, of course.

Poor Little Rich Girl? Check. Poor Outsider Suddenly Thrown into a World of Excess? Double check.
The Royals is everything that's been missing from your life since Gossip Girl and The O.C. ended their respective runs. While there have been worthy contenders to the throne since then (90210, The Carrie Diaries) none have been able to capture that same charm – until now.
Funnily enough, E!'s first original scripted series was actually created by Mark Schwahn, of One Tree Hill fame. While The Royals bears little resemblance (if any) to OTH, you can rest assured that one of the keepers of our mid-2000s hearts and minds has our backs in this new venture.

[YOUTUBE "k0A5m24jO-0"] God save the queen – from her mother.
In a new teaser trailer for E!'s first scripted series, The Royals, we get our first live-action look at Joan Collins playing Elizabeth Hurley's mother.
Being the queen does not, it seems, save you from a mother's criticism: "I see you've decorated," the Grand Duchess of Oxford tells her daughter. "I'd love to know whatever possessed you to choose 'Vegas' as your theme."

Joan Collins has met Queen Elizabeth II many times in her life, but none will be as special as when she officially gets "damed" by Her Majesty this spring.

All hail Joan Collins.
The Dynasty actress has closed a deal to guest-star on E!'s first scripted series, The Royals, an hour-long drama about a fictional British royal family set in modern-day London.
In her role, Collins, 81, will play the Grand Duchess of Oxford, otherwise known as the mother of Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley).

Dynasty star Joan Collins has reportedly won her defamation dispute with actress Shirley Jones, who claimed that a dinner date involving their husbands nearly turned into swinger party.
The Partridge Family alum, 79, has agreed to remove Collins's name from her new book Shirley Jones: A Memoir, after Collins, 80, accused Jones of libel.
In the book, Jones and her then-husband Jack Cassidy were at the home of Collins and Tony Newley for dinner. Afterwards, Newley proposed they all get naked and watch pornography. "It was clear what Tony was leading up to – swinging," Jones, who turned down the offer, writes.
