It was one of comedy's most famous feuds: Johnny Carson, angry that frequent guest host Joan Rivers had gotten her own late-night talk show, banned her from The Tonight Show in a fit of pique.
And now it's over.
On Thursday night, Rivers made her first appearance on the Tonight Show couch in 26 years. (Jay Leno, perhaps wary after his rocky introduction, continued Carson's blacklisting; Conan presumably had other things on his mind.)

Jennifer Lawrence hates the word "fat."
The American Hustle star – who got into a war of words with Joan Rivers last month after criticizing shows like Fashion Police for teaching young people "the wrong values" – is letting loose in a new interview with Barbara Walters.
During an appearance on the ABC News special Barbara Walters: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013, the 23-year-old takes aim at people who bash the way women look.
"I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV," the Oscar winner says.

It's becoming an all out fashion war between Joan Rivers and Jennifer Lawrence.
Rivers, 80, is firing back at the 23-year-old actress after she criticized her E! show Fashion Police for teaching young people "the wrong values."
"There are shows like the Fashion Police that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on all the wrong values and that it's OK to point at people and call them ugly or fat," The Independent reported Lawrence as telling Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer while promoting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. "We have to stop treating each other like that and stop calling each other fat."
Rivers immediately took to social media to respond with cutting humor.

Katy Perry and John Mayer's on-again, off-again romance appears to be back on.
After recently telling Vogue magazine that she was "still madly in love" with Mayer, Perry was spotted out with the "Paper Doll" singer at New York's Greenwich Hotel on Saturday night and, later, at Monday's Friars Foundation Annual Applause Awards Gala honoring Don Rickles at the Waldorf-Astoria.
At the event, Mayer performed a tune made famous by Frank Sinatra, which captivated Perry.
"When John performed, Katy was enamored by his performance," a source tells PEOPLE. "He sang 'One for My Baby (and One More for the Road).' When they were sitting down, she had her arm around John at one point. They shared kisses."
