Joe Jackson is in the hospital, recovering from a stroke.
Michael Jackson's father, 84, fell ill at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday at his home in Las Vegas, a source tells PEOPLE, explaining, "He was sitting down and then found he couldn't stand up. When he finally was able to, he found himself without balance and falling into the walls."
Experiencing "tightness in his head," Jackson then called a friend and told them something didn't feel right, the source says. The friend then came to Joe's house and took him to the hospital.

Carefully guarding his words when it came to whom he thinks is to blame for his son Michael's death, patriarch Joe Jackson simply says he was unaware – until now – "there was foul play done."
"I didn't know all this was going on," the elder Jackson, referring to Michael's drug use, said on Monday's Today show. Speaking for the first time since authorities ruled the King of Pop's June 25 death a homicide, Jackson, 80, said , "I'm not angry, I'm mad … Because I didn't know all this was going on."
And now, he says, his family "wants justice to be done."

Joseph Jackson says his son Michael will be finally laid to rest on Aug. 29, on what would have been the King of Pop's 51st birthday.
PEOPLE has confirmed a New York Daily News report that the burial will take place privately at Los Angeles's Forest Lawn Cemetery at 10 that morning, some two months after Michael's June 25 death.
