It was a family affair for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on Saturday.
The couple spent the morning with their two children, Harlow and Sparrow, in Pasadena, Calif., where they stopped at the Cheesecake Factory for lunch.
On their way into the restaurant, Madden spoke to his "adorable" children about the importance of safety while crossing the street.
"He was telling them to be careful and it was really cute," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
The source adds, "Nicole and Joel looked really good and it just seemed like a normal family outing."

Though Disney on Ice Presents: Dare to Dream at L.A.'s Staples Center was meant to entertain kids, a few grown-up celebs got in touch with their inner children backstage at the show.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, there with their children Harlow and Sparrow, snapped a fun photo with Disney's Princess Tiana. (Don't worry, Harlow and Sparrow got their turn with the princess, too!)
Richie was quite the star backstage, too: According to a source, several ice skaters asked to take a photo with her, and she kindly obliged.
Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart were also there with their daughter Billie – who dressed up as Cinderella and held a Cinderella doll – and baby Georgia, as well. Before leaving, both families donated diapers to Baby Buggy, a charity that benefits needy Los Angeles mothers, fathers and children. – Melody Chiu

When it comes to his feelings for wife Nicole Richie, Joel Madden just can't stay mum.
"Special dedication to my wife," the Good Charlotte frontman, 33, posted on his Tumblr Thursday, sharing a photo of himself receiving a kiss from Richie. "We just spent a few days off the grid celebrating our second wedding anniversary."

Nicole Richie wants to make one thing clear about her new puppy: She's not picking up after it!
The Fashion Star judge and her husband, Joel Madden, brought home an 18-month-old German shepherd last week, but the responsibility is all Daddy's, she tells Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday's Ellen DeGeneres Show.
"I actually told Joel I don't want to pick up after anything ever again," Richie says. "I've got my kids, so I'm going to let you do that. It's his dog, but I like to, you know, snuggle. I like to hug him and kiss him."

Maria Menounos, Whitney Port, Mena Suvari and Joel Madden are dying for a new look. Literally!
As part of AMC, which airs The Walking Dead, and American Red Cross's joint effort to raise awareness about donating blood, they are among the celebrities who are participating in The American Red Cross Zombie Blood Drive campaign.
Their zombie-fied pictures will run on the air in a public zombie announcement (PZA) on AMC, and online at the network's campaign site, amcgiveblood.com.
Elisabeth Röhm, Jimmy Smits and The Black Keys are also featured in the series.

Nicole Richie is going wild Down Under.
The star, who is in Sydney with husband Joel Madden, a judge on The Voice Australia, spent a family day at the Taronga Zoo with children Harlow, 4, and Sparrow, 2.
They met a friendly giraffe and took turns feeding the animal carrots by hand. Both young and old seemed thrilled by the encounter: The children were googly-eyed, while Richie looked awed as she took photos of the giraffe on her phone.

Joe Jonas Sticks to His Boys at a Vodka Bash

Fresh off the plane from N.Y.C. on Wednesday, Joe Jonas wasted no time getting back into the L.A. party circuit, heading downtown for the Absolut Greyhound vodka bash at the Belasco, where he joined other celebrities, including Nicole Scherzinger, Joel Madden and Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz, who was there with her Vampire Diaries beau Michael Trevino.
Taking in the sounds of DJ Politik and Swedish House Mafia, Jonas sipped on the signature cocktails of the night and hung out with his guy friends, including a member of his band.
"Girls came up to his table the whole time he was there," a source tells PEOPLE. "He was polite, but he mainly just stuck to his guys the entire night."

• Nicole Richie met hubby Joel Madden in Chicago, where he's touring with his band Good Charlotte – and she even brought the kids! But the couple made sure to get some alone time, dining out at Sunda, where she indulged in Grey Goose saketinis with some pals. The next day, Benji Madden met up with the band in time for the concert, where Nicole & Joel's son Sparrow was "rocking out to the music," a source says. Richie, Madden and their kids skipped the afterparty, though, jumping on a private tour bus to head to the next tour stop.
