John Mellencamp and Meg Ryan are still going strong – and the rocker had his girlfriend's support while working on his latest project: the musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, which he co-wrote with Stephen King and stars American Idol's Justin Guarini, in Atlanta.
Two days before the show's world premiere, the couple was spotted dining with five other guests at STK Atlanta. Ryan looked chic in her black maxi dress and black blazer, while Mellencamp was dressed down in a T-shirt, sweater and jeans, says a restaurant rep. – Jennifer Bradley Franklin

John Mellencamp Officially Divorced

Rocker John Mellencamp and his estranged wife, model Elaine Irwin Mellencamp, are officially divorced.
The couple, who were wed for 18 years and have two sons – Hud, 17, and Speck, 16 – separated on Sept. 1, 2010, and he filed for divorce on Jan. 14. Their divorce, his third, was formalized on Aug. 12.
The couple negotiated "an amicable settlement of all issues involving property and maintenance rights, the custody and support of their children, and all other issues," according the settlement agreement.
They will share joint legal custody of the boys, with their mother – who will return to the name Elaine Irwin – having primary physical custody. John will pay child support and for their schooling. No other specifics of their 31-page confidential final settlement agreement were made public.

John Mellencamp and estranged wife Elaine Irwin will remain friends as they end their 19-year marriage, a longtime pal tells PEOPLE.
"There will be no war between Elaine and John Mellencamp," Kris Gebhardt, John’s former trainer and 11-year friend of the exes, tells PEOPLE. "They are both levelheaded people who are great parents. They have a lot of respect for each other."
Gebhardt believes that Irwin, 41, will get through her breakup from John, 59, without a problem.

John Mellencamp Files for Divorce

John Mellencamp filed for divorce from model wife Elaine on Jan. 14 in Nashville, Ind.'s Brown County – not far from their Lake Monroe home.
No hearing date has been set in the case, and neither Mellencamp lawyer could be reached for comment. No other information was readily available.
"John picked a good place to file because this is a very quiet and out of the way," a lawyer close to proceedings tells PEOPLE.

The new couple, who a source says began dating about seven weeks ago, were spotted together Wednesday in New York City,
They dined at E.A.T. before taking in an exhibit together at the Whitney Museum. On Tuesday they were seen grocery shopping at the Gourmet Garage in SoHo.

The new year brings new beginnings for Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp.
The pair have spent time together on Martha's Vineyard and in New York City in recent days, enjoying a fresh romance just as Mellencamp has announced his separation from wife Elaine after 18 years of marriage.
A source close to Ryan, 49, says the actress and the rock star, 59, began dating about seven weeks ago, and that Mellencamp and his wife had been separated for some time before that.

Since announcing his split from supermodel Elaine Irwin after nearly 20 years of marriage, John Mellencamp has spent a quiet New Year's weekend at his Daufuskie Island, S.C., home.
"John has been at his house over New Year's running along the street for exercise and sitting out by his pool," a resident on the island tells PEOPLE. "But he was all alone."
Located between Savannah, Ga., and Hilton Head, SC, Daufuskie Island has become a favorite vacation spot for the singer and his wife Elaine, who own other property in the area as well. The beautiful white, gated home has a grand backyard and infinity pool. The front of the home looks like a church with a minimalist, modern decor.

It's not all engagement news this holiday: Singer John Mellencamp and wife Elaine have decided to separate after 18 years of marriage.
They "are proud of their 20 years together and are very happy with their accomplishments both as parents and as a family," according to the statement Mellencamp's spokesperson Bob Merlis gave The Hollywood Reporter. "They will continue to raise their two children in Indiana but have decided to call it a day as a couple."

Internet buzz over John Mellencamp's potential career in politics has heated up, with nearly 1,700 people joining the "Draft John Mellencamp for Senate" group on Facebook. And several politicos seem to think the rocker could be a viable possibility to replace Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh, who has announced he won't seek reelection.
As first reported in The Week, Brent Budowsky of The Hill notes that Mellencamp, who co-founded the Farm Aid concerts, is already a "voice for working people and a champion of farmers ... [He's] one of the great advocates of small-town America."
