The Daily Show returned from its hiatus on Monday, and Stewart, 52, made it clear that he's standing by his man.
Acknowledging the Twitter "kerfuffle," Stewart said, "without hesitation," that Noah "will earn your trust and respect ... Or not. Just as I earned your trust and respect ... Or did not," he joked. "Or sometimes earned it and then lost it and then kind of got it back and then it was like, 'F--- that guy!' "

It took less 24 hours after the news that Trevor Noah would replace Jon Stewart on The Daily Show for the new host to land himself in hot water when Twitter users called out the comedian for controversial remarks made on his feed.
Despite the drama, one of the the show's correspondents is defending Comedy Central's newest headliner.
"It's much ado about nothing," Aasif Mandvi said Tuesday during a LinkedIn discussion series with executive editor Dan Roth in New York City.

Well, that didn't take long.
Within 24 hours of the announcement that he would replace Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show, Trevor Noah is already facing controversy.
Now that he's in the spotlight, Twitter users have been going through his feed with a fine-tooth comb – and were generally not thrilled with what they found.
For example, one Tweet from January 2012 reads, "Behind every successful rap billionaire is a double as rich Jewish man. #BeatsByDreidel."

Jessica Williams may not be taking over Jon Stewart's soon-to-be vacated seat on The Daily Show, but don't call her a victim.
Following the announcement that Stewart would be stepping down, the Twitter hive mind immediately decided that Williams should take his place.
The Daily Show correspondent responded to the furor by thanking her fans for their support but saying she is "extremely under-qualified for the job," adding, "At this age (25) if something happens politically that I don't agree with, I need to go to my room and like not come out for, like, 7 days."
