Taylor Hicks is used to being the object of adoring fans – but when the Jonas Brothers made a TV appearance in New York, the American Idol swapped roles.

Hicks, who is currently starring in Grease on Broadway, couldn't resist partaking in Jonas Brothers mania with thousands of other fans outside of the Live With Regis & Kelly studios in New York City Thursday morning, he told PEOPLE.

"Once I arrived and saw all the Jonas Brothers fans, I got in on the screaming. We were all having a great time out there," said Hicks, who grabbed a sign from a fan and proudly held it up when the band arrived for the show. "We were all just being fans and that's a cool thing."

Jonas Brothers Reveal Coping Mechanism: Caffeine!

The Jonas Brothers have a not-so-secret weapon for coping with a hectic schedule: caffeine!

"I have an energy drink when I wake up and a coffee when I eat breakfast," Nick Jonas tells Teen magazine in its summer issue. But that's not all. "Then [I have] a coffee at dinner and an energy drink right before I go onstage. Then I'm good."

And no wonder Jonas needs the boost: He and his brothers – Joe and Kevin – have a slate of upcoming projects in the works. After touring with Miley Cyrus and Avril Lavigne earlier in the year, the rocking trio are preparing for Camp Rock, their made-for-TV musical, which will air on the Disney Channel on June 20. In it, Joe says he gets to play a world-weary rocker named Shane Gray. But despite his band's success, the middle brother says he's not really like his character.

These days, the Jonas Brothers are more polished than a tween girl's "I Heart Joe" pendant. But back before they were full-fledged rock stars, the boys – Nick, 15, Joe, 18, and Kevin, 20 – had to really work at winning over an audience. In this exclusive clip of the band's first audition in front of Disney Channel execs in 2006, the brothers pull out the stops to impress with their singing (Kevin and Nick rock out on guitar, while Joe shows off some stage moves on a conference room table) and comedic timing. Take a look and you'll see just how far they've come. And for more behind-the-scenes scoop on the band check out PEOPLE's special All About the Jonas Brothers issue, on newsstands now.

Watch your back, Reggie Bush! The football star has been dating Kim Kardashian for about a year – but she admits she has feelings for another (young) man.

"We met the Jonas Brothers. Nick [Jonas] is so cute," Kardashian, 27, told PEOPLE Saturday backstage at KIIS-FM's Wango Tango concert, where the Jonas Brothers played to thousands of screaming fans.

"I don't think Reggie will get mad because [Nick] is, like, 15," noted the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star – whose family was on hand to introduce Miley Cyrus. "I really shouldn't say that he's cute. It's a little inappropriate! They're adorable."

But Bush proved that he's the real keeper, dutifully carting the couple's concert swag back to their car.
