All's fair in love and reality TV, right?
While there's no doubt that many of our favorite contestants on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette over the years would probably agree with that phrase, there are quite a few seem to have taken it a little too literally. They plotted, schemed, lied and betrayed – and they made for some pretty amazing television in the process.
And, if we were really lucky, they then ended up on one of the spin-off shows, Bachelor in Paradise (currently airing Sundays and Mondays on ABC) and Bachelor Pad (which celebrates its fifth anniversary this weekend). In the spirit of free-flowing roses, champagne and drama, let's take a look back at all of the contestants that we loved to hate over the years – and a few we just plain hated.

There was dancing. There were pirates. And there was Juan Pablo Galavis.

[YOUTUBE "ijJ-wY3lLeM"] When it comes to breakups, Juan Pablo Galavis has a lot of experience.
The former Bachelor basically broke up with 17 women on the show to choose Nikki Ferrell. But that relationship didn't work out, and the couple split in October.
Now that some time has passed, Galavis can laugh about it – and poke fun at his image in a short film, called How To Break Up With Your Girlfriend ... by an Expert.

With the announcement that yet another contestant from Juan Pablo Galavis's season of The Bachelor has gotten engaged, it's time for us to wonder: Is Galavis, 33, the embodiment of a 2007 rom-com starring Dane Cook and Jessica Alba?
The premise of Good Luck Chuck is that Cook's character, Chuck, had a curse placed on him as a 12-year-old for refusing to kiss a goth girl. Stay with us, here. The curse dictates that every woman who sleeps with Chuck will immediately break up with him and marry the next man who asks her out.
Sharleen Joynt is officially the sixth woman from Galavis's season to benefit from the former Bachelor as a sexual lucky charm. The sixth. Of course, not all of the women on this list entered Galavis's fantasy suite, but they did, undeniably, benefit from his aura.

Nikki Ferrell isn't bitter about her time on The Bachelor. She's not even bummed that she lost out on a chance at marriage.
On the contrary, the pediatric nurse from Kansas City, Missouri, says she's actually "really happy" these days, even though she ended her relationship with The Bachelor's polarizing Juan Pablo Galavis in October.
"It didn't end because we didn't love each other or [over] a lack of communication," Ferrell told host Chris Harrison during Monday night's season 19 premiere of The Bachelor. "It just ended because of a difference of lifestyle. There was a point we said we love each other, like in a normal relationship."

During the latest season of VH1's Couples Therapy, viewers have watched former Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis and girlfriend Nikki Ferrell struggle over how he expresses his affection. (Hint: He still hasn't said "I love you.")
But Jenn Berman, the no-nonsense psychotherapist behind the show, says they're coming along as a couple.
"Juan Pablo and Nikki have evolved through their therapy," she tells PEOPLE. "But there's more work to be done. There are some specific things about Juan Pablo that have caused him to hold back, but both he and Nikki open up more and more as they go through therapy."

Juan Pablo Galavis is used to public scrutiny of his relationships. When he was on The Bachelor, the former soccer player, 33, drew fire for declining to propose to girlfriend Nikki Ferrell at the end of the season.
Now appearing on Couples Therapy, he has taken a lot of heat for waiting to say "I love you" to Ferrell.
The backlash has been brutal – and not just for Galavis. After a recent episode, Twitter erupted with hateful tweets aimed at Ferrell, 27, calling her names for staying in the relationship. It got so overwhelming that Ferrell, who admits to being hurt by online chatter, suspended her Twitter account.
Despite the online drama, Galavis tells PEOPLE that he and Ferrell are still going strong. In an exclusive interview, he talks to PEOPLE about reality TV, Internet bullies, and why he hasn't said those three little words.
