Last week, CBS premiered the new political drama Madam Secretary, which stars Téa Leoni as Elizabeth Faulkner McCord, the U.S. Secretary of State. It's hardly a far-fetched concept, as we've seen three female secretaries of state since 1997: Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton.

At the Emmy Awards on Monday, big winners Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston turned up the heat with a passionate (staged) kiss that reminded Seinfeld fans of his role on that show as her love interest, Tim Whatley.

Awards-wise, the 2014 Emmys played out exactly the way most people would have predicted – lots of trophies for Breaking Bad and Modern Family and assorted other laurels for veteran Emmy favorites.
Thankfully, though, we had the acceptance speeches to inject a hint of surprise into the proceedings.
