American Horror Story Creator Ryan Murphy Offers Peek Inside His Beverly Hills Mansion

It's not every house – or couple – that can welcome Reese Witherspoon, Jane Lynch and Julie Roberts to dinner all on the same night, but Glee, American Horror Story and The New Normal creator Ryan Murphy and his husband, photographer David Miller, did just that, when in June they hosted the $40,000-a-plate dinner for President Obama.
Of course, besides great connections, it also helps to have a $10 million showplace to call home, which the couple – who wed last 4th of July – also have, as seen in The Hollywood Reporter's first-ever Home Issue.
Located near the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Spanish Colonial residence was first built in 1927 and last owned by Diane Keaton. Murphy bought it in 2010 and worked with designer Cliff Fong to add several colorful touches – including quirky antiques and figurines with sombreros circling a courtyard water fountain.

Mirror, Mirror, the new adaptation of Snow White directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals), stars Julia Roberts as the evil Queen, Lily Collins as Snow White and Armie Hammer as the charming Prince Alcott.
The film is slight but fun, which just might be enough to lure tween girls away from The Hunger Games.

Julia Roberts plays the Evil Queen in the new Snow White film Mirror, Mirror, but it turns out the Oscar winner has some tricks up her sleeve even in her own house – especially when it comes to her kids.
Roberts, 44, says she gets a huge kick out of scaring her children – Henry, 4, and 7-year-old twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus.
"If I hear them coming and they don't know where I am in the house, I crouch down in their private space and [when] they come in, I jump out," she tells Ellen DeGeneres on Friday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Really, little people can just catch air. They just vault."

Everyone makes mistakes – and young celebrities are no exception, says Julia Roberts.
The Mirror Mirror actress, 44, is bothered by the lack of what young stars are able to get away with in the public eye, compared to when she started in the business decades ago.
"There's the express elevator and there's rehab," she tells Vanity Fair. "It's so awful. Nobody gets a fair trial-and-error period that everybody deserves and everybody needs."

PEOPLE Review: Oscars Like Old Times – for Good and Bad

Considering that last year's Oscars were so thumpingly bad – co-host James Franco behaved as if he'd been taken out of the freezer, left on the counter and unevenly thawed – last night's broadcast was a welcome relief.
The strength of the show ultimately rests on the heat of the biggest contests – I doubt Americans were on the edge of their seats wondering whether the cosmically inscrutable Tree of Life could score an upset over the French silent The Artist – but the production looked great and flowed well.
Billy Crystal was hosting for his ninth time, brought on after Eddie Murphy dropped out in November, and it felt no different from his seventh, eighth or (if one were to project) fifty-seventh time.

The couple shared an order of guacamole, then she tucked into a chopped turkey salad, while he sampled the Brussels sprout salad with Ahi tuna. Last week brought the debut of the trailer for the Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron-led Snow White and the Huntsman.
Now comes the other princess with skin as white as snow and hair as black as night.
The trailer for Mirror, Mirror, starring Lily Collins as Snow White and Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, seems to take a lighter spin on the dark fairytale.

For Lily Collins, starring opposite Julia Roberts in the as-yet untitled Snow White movie was intimidating in more ways than one.
"She gave me goosebumps," Collins, the 22-year-old who plays Snow White, tells PEOPLE. "She played the Evil Queen brilliantly. You forget that's really Julia because she's so good. Off camera, she's so down to earth and so sweet. We'd be shooting and she's being extremely horrible to me [in character] and once they yell cut, the first thing she says to me, 'Are you okay? I'm sorry, I hate being mean to you.' "
Adds director Tarsem Singh: "Julia was completely right in saying like, 'I feel so strange being mean to her, because it feels like I'm being mean to Bambi.' "
As for his Snow White: "Lily looks so young – Liz Taylor meets Audrey Hepburn."
