Julianne Hough isn't quite ready to show off her sparkly engagement bling just yet.
On Tuesday, Hough, 27, made her first public appearance since announcing her engagement to hockey player Brooks Laich on Aug. 18, but she kept her ring – an over five-carat, oval-shaped Lorraine Schwartz diamond – carefully hidden.

Relationships aren't easy, especially in Hollywood. But Julianne Hough and her new fiancé Brooks Laich seem to have figured out how to keep their relationship going strong despite their hectic lives.
"Their work schedules keep them apart a lot, but they make it work," an insider tells PEOPLE of the dancer and NHL player, who announced their engagement on Hough's Instagram account on Tuesday. "They see each other whenever they can."

They're jumping for joy – literally!
Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich, a Washington Capitals hockey player, announced their engagement on Tuesday with an adorable photo on Instagram.
"We are overwhelmed with joy and excitement to share with you our recent engagement! #fiancé #love," the Dancing With the Stars judge captioned the picture, where the professional dancer is wrapped around her NHL star beau with her hand extended in a happy wave as she admires her engagement ring.

If dancing ever fails for Derek and Julianne Hough, the siblings already have their backup plans in place.
Instead of making a living as a professional dancer, "I'd be Indiana Jones," Derek quipped to PEOPLE at a dance class sponsored by Proactiv+ that the duo led in New York City. "That's not even a joke answer. That's a real answer. … I would be traveling the world finding relics."
Julianne also has a foolproof career ready to go, too – it just involves a bit of luck. Julianne proclaimed, "I would win the lottery so I could travel the world and do seminars with young girls about self-esteem and encouragement and empowerment."
