Julianne Moore: Plastic Surgery Is Like Chinese Foot Binding
Originally posted 11/06/2008 01:45PM
Julianne Moore is happy to grow old gracefully in Hollywood. And although she won't entirely rule out plastic surgery, she does liken it to an ancient form of female disfigurement.
"The analogy I use is ancient Chinese feet-binding," Moore reveals in the December issue of the U.K.'s Tatler. "At what point did they decide that small feet were more beautiful? People started making them smaller and smaller until they were stumps and not beautiful at all."
While we're no longer binding feet, women are still willing to undergo painful procedures in the name of beauty.
"I feel we have decided that being expressionless and young-looking is the most beautiful thing," the Blindness star – who has previously spoken out against Botox – says with skepticism. "In pursuit of that, it becomes more and more exaggerated and totally obliterates what we look like."

"I don't know why women do Botox," the freckled redhead tells Britain's Observer Magazine. "It doesn't make them look younger, it just makes them look like they had work done."
She adds: "You are not going to look the same as you did at 25. What are you going to do about it?"

Julianne Moore Fumes Over Spitzer 'Embarrassment'
Originally posted 03/12/2008 09:00AM
New York Governor Elliot Spitzer apparently won't be getting off easy with his celebrity constituents.
"A f---ing embarrassment" is how Julianne Moore, once a fan of the former attorney general, termed the politico's involvement in a prostitution ring – for which it is anticipated he will resign on Wednesday.
"I'm really pissed," the fiery New Yorker, 47, told PEOPLE during Tuesday's TSE flagship SoHo store opening. "I honestly don't care where or how people have sex, or with whom, but prostitution is illegal. For someone whose got such a reputation for having a real attitude towards crime, you have to walk the walk. I'm sorry."
Meanwhile, TV hosts were more than happy to have a new political punching bag for their monologues. For instance:

With Thanksgiving upon us, the holiday season has officially begun – and Julianne Moore, for one, is ready for it. "Growing up in NYC is a pretty special thing," Moore told us about her kids, Caleb, 6, and Liv, 2, at an event unveiling Cartier's holiday window display. "I didn't grow up here, but my husband (director Bart Freundlich) did and the city has so much to offer. It's such a wonderful place, especially at Christmas with the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and skating at Wollman Rink (in Central Park). Literally there is a Santa Claus in the Marc Jacobs store near where we live. It's a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful place to be at Christmas time."
