As tabloid fodder for nearly two decades, Jennifer Aniston, who celebrates her 45th birthday Tuesday, proved she can take a joke when it comes to perennial rumors about marriage and motherhood.
While conducting an interview with author and activist Gloria Steinem for The Makers Conference in Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif., the actress made a pointed comment.
"The public has a great interest in our personal lives," Aniston said. "I know you've come up against this, and I certainly have too – where being a woman and our value and our worth is basically associated with our marital status or whether or not we have procreated."
Responded the childless Steinem, "Well, I guess we're in deep s–––!"

For many women, Jennifer Aniston is a style and beauty icon. But as she prepares to turn 45 in February, the actress confesses she's had her insecure life moments, calling her 30s an "awkward phase."
Now, a decade later, Aniston tells Parade in an exclusive interview that she's moved past those worries of the past and is feeling more comfortable about her whole package.
"I'm a little bit of a late bloomer! But it doesn't matter to me because it just gets better," Aniston said of growing older. "They do say youth is wasted on the young, but I feel just as youthful now – if not more – than I did when I was 25. I'm more in my body; I'm more in my mind. Life is full. Life is wonderful."

Some holiday traditions are too important to not do yourself – and when it comes to picking out a Christmas tree, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux don't put on airs.
The glamorous pair ventured out of their sprawling Bel Air mansion to personally pick out a tree – in this case a 10-ft. Noble Fir from Mr. Greentrees in Beverly Hills that Theroux paid for.
"Jen picks her own Christmas tree every year," says a witness. "It's a tradition for her. She's very specific about the tree that she wants. "
At the tree lot, "Jen was in a great mood and took her time to pick out the perfect tree," says the witness. "Justin helped her and she found a beautiful one."

When Jennifer Aniston and her fiancé, Justin Theroux, moved into their newly renovated $21 million Bel Air mansion earlier this year, they both brought knick-knacks from their own homes to furnish their new love nest.
But there were a few items eccentric collector Theroux owned that Aniston just wouldn't let in the front door.
In an interview with the October issue of GQ, Theroux, 42, is asked about the scene in When Harry Met Sally… where Carrie Fisher's character tells her boyfriend, Bruno Kirby, to ditch his wagon-wheel coffee table. Was there anything that Aniston, 44, told him he had to get rid of when they moved in together?
"My wagon-wheel table is my syphilis throats," he replied.
