Zach "The Director" Braff returns on Friday with his second cinematic effort, Wish I was Here. It's the Kickstarter-funded story of a struggling actor – his last job was a dandruff commercial – caught in the confusion of dealing with grown-up responsibilities, while still wishing to be a kid. Complete with Shins songs, daydreams and waiting rooms, Wish I Was Here is littered with nostalgic nods to Braff's directorial debut: Garden State.

Talk about O.M.G.
Sunday night's episode of HBO's The Leftovers did away with the myriad character vignettes and focused on the painful, pious life of Mapleton's religious leader, Father Matt Jamison (Christopher Eccleston). It raised the question: Did faith decide who left – during the sudden departure that claimed the lives of millions – and who was simply leftover?

And the plot sickens.
On Sunday's episode of HBO's mind-bending new drama The Leftovers – about a town reeling from a rapture-like occurrence that claimed millions all over the world, including many of their citizens – the hunt is on for dogs, trees, people and seemingly everything in between.
The show's second episode opens mid-manhunt, as police officers raid the ranch of mysterious soothsayer Wayne (Paterson Joseph). He's a reported pedophile who keeps company with a host of young girls, but is better known for healing the grief-stricken with his magical hugs.

In a word: enrapturing.
Premiering Sunday night, HBO's The Leftovers, about a small New York town in the aftermath of a global Rapture-like event that caused the sudden disappearance of two percent of the world's population, was possibly the most anticipated new show of the summer. While disturbing, the first episode did not disappoint.
Reader warning: Plot spoilers ahead.
