Jon & Kate's Divorce Could Be Finalized by Year's End

Jon Gosselin showed up for a daylong divorce arbitration hearing Saturday with a bouquet of long-stemmed red roses for Kate – only to have her turn them down and later leave the courthouse empty-handed.

But while Jon wasn't able to say it with flowers, the former couple were able to express themselves well in other ways, leading to a "successful and productive" session, his lawyer Mark Heller tells PEOPLE.

"This has been called the real-life War of the Roses," says Heller, referring to the 1989 black comedy in which Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner played bitterly battling spouses, "and he brought that as a peace offering to break the ice and try to bring the war to an end."

Things went so well for the Jon & Kate Plus 8 stars that the arbitration's scheduled second day, planned for Monday, is no longer necessary. The arbitrator is expected to rule in a month, and Heller says "it's possible" the contentious divorce could be finalized by the end of the year.

Hailey Glassman to Be Subpoenaed in Jon Gosselin Lawsuit

Jon Gosselin's girlfriend Hailey Glassman and his friend Michael Lohan are among the witnesses TLC plans to subpoena in a breach of contract lawsuit filed against the reality star, according to new court papers.

Maryland's Circuit Court of Montgomery County has granted motions filed by the network's lawyers to depose Glassman, 22, Lindsay Lohan's dad Michael, 49, as well as Gosselin's lawyer Mark Heller, manager Michael Heller, bodyguard Thomas Meinelt and his talent rep Matthew Kirschner.

Kate Gosselin Gets Witchy on Halloween

It's no surprise that tons of trick-or-treaters donned blond helmet wigs and Ed Hardy T-shirts to become reality TV's unavoidable couple, Kate and Jon Gosselin, this past Halloween. The surprising news is that the real Kate Gosselin managed to head out with her kids – without a single photographer in sight.

"This year, she was able to go trick-or-treating without paparazzi, just like a normal mom," a friend of Kate's tells PEOPLE.

Two days before Kate expressed deep pain and remorse about her life in a revealing TLC interview, the reality star dressed up as a glamorous witch and joined her sextuplets when they hit the streets in their quiet Pennsylvania neighborhood.

Part of Kate Gosselin Still Loves Jon

The romance has long since died, but for Kate Gosselin, a kernel of the emotion still lives.

"A part of me always will [love Jon]," she says. "It's hard to to be married to somebody for 10 years and try to say, 'No, I don't love them anymore.' It doesn't work really well. I love the memories that we have together."

Sitting down with the Today show's Natalie Morales for a special aired on TLC Monday night, Gosselin, 34, describes a bleak life after splitting with Jon, with her living in the center of a maelstrom of media attention.

Jon Gosselin Regrets Hurting Hailey Glassman

Jon Gosselin continues the delicate juggling act that is his romantic life.

While tangling with estranged wife Kate over their eight kids and money issues, the reality star is trying to make amends with girlfriend Hailey Glassman after she called him emotionally abusive.

"My girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, has paid a significant price to live under such a media microscope,” Gosselin tells the TV show The Insider, which also reported Glassman's complaints.

"I am grateful for her emotional support and I regret any pain that my actions have caused her as she has selflessly born the pressures I have endured under the media glare. I am committed to making things right with Hailey as well as Kate and especially my children. I ask you to please give me the opportunity to prove myself."
