Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Julianne Hough Nominated for Academy of Country Music Awards

The nominees for the 44th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were announced during The Early Show on Wednesday morning, bringing good news for performers including Brad Paisley, Julianne Hough, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift.
Underwood is the lone women nominated for entertainer of the year, and will face off against Paisley (up for six awards), Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and George Strait.
Kellie Pickler – who made the announcements along with Jessica Simpson, LeAnn Rimes, and Hough – lit up and clapped when Underwood's name was called. "I think it's so amazing a female is up there to represent," she tells PEOPLE.
Adds Rimes, "We're in such a male dominated world, it's great to see a woman there."

Taylor Swift Won't Be Lonely on the Road

Taylor Swift – who has topped the Billboard chart for the past eight weeks with her second album, Fearless – has announced her first headlining tour, which will take her to 52 cities over six months.
Swift, 19, will officially kick off her Fearless Tour 2009, which she calls "a dream come true," on April 23 in Evansville, Ill., immediately followed by Jonesboro, Ark., and St. Louis, Mo. (Tickets go on sale Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. PST. For a complete tour schedule, check her official site.)

Kellie Pickler's USO Tour: Loved the Troops, Hated the Toilets

Kellie Pickler just returned from a whirlwind USO tour of military bases around the world, and the exhausted country singer says she can't shake two things from her mind.
"Seeing the faces of over 20,000 military men and women (that is forever imprinted in my mind)," Pickler writes in a new post on her MySpace blog. "And ... the horrific endless sight of porta potties (that too is forever imprinted in my mind)."
Seriously, though, Pickler, 22, says the response from military personnel around the world – the tour took her to Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and England – deeply impressed her.

Kellie Pickler Gets Help Eating Her Veggies from Carrie Underwood

Not long ago Kellie Pickler was a red-meat-eating country girl. Now, the country star tells PEOPLE, "I can't do it!"
About five months ago, she joined pal Carrie Underwood, a long-time vegetarian, in giving up eating meat.
"Most country girls do like their meat!" she laughs. "I used to eat steak rare all the time. I'd just throw it on the grill for two seconds, flip it over and it was done and everyone was like, 'That's so gross – that thing is still moving!' "
So when she made her big decision, she got some moral support quickly. "I texted Carrie and was like, 'You're never going to believe this!' And she was like, 'No way! I'll give you three days!' "

Kellie Pickler: I Battled A Year-Long Depression

Last year, Kellie Pickler battled depression and suffered severe reactions to anti-depressant pills after struggling with family problems and an emotional breakup from her boyfriend, hockey player Jordin Tootoo, the country star reveals in the new issue of PEOPLE, on sale Friday.
"Everything in my professional life seemed great," says the former American Idol contestant, 22. "But in my personal life, I was just crumbling."
Anti-depressants made her "crazy," she says, and the side effects forced her to quit the pills.

Kellie Pickler to Co-Host New Year's Rockin' Eve

She may have been booted from American Idol, but Kellie Pickler has no hard feelings.
The country star will team up with the show's host, Ryan Seacrest, to emcee one of the hottest New Year's parties around.
A thrilled Pickler, 22, broke the news Thursday on her MySpace celebrity blog, telling fans she's been tapped to co-host this year's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.
