Kenny Chesney: George Jones Was Real, Tortured and More Alive Than Anyone
Originally posted 04/26/2013 05:30PM
With the passing of country icon George Jones, many will remember the singer's mythical stories of hard-living and never showing up for concerts.
But Kenny Chesney says his friend was a supportive force in his life when he was just starting his career. And he recalls opening up for Jones during his reunion tour with Tammy Wynette in 1995.
"I thought I'd made it," Chesney said in a statement Friday. "Then one night, George asked me if I was heading home because he and [his wife] Nancy had a plane, and they'd take me. I remember sitting on that jet, thinking, 'This can't be happening.' Because he was George Jones and I was some kid from nowhere. I'm sure he knew, but he was generous to kids chasing the dream and I never forgot it."

Originally posted 06/06/2012 01:15PM
It was a gorgeous, slightly breezy day in Nashville. There was a breakfast buffet stocked with muffins and fruit set up – and the sound of gunfire crackled loudly in the air.
Turns out, Tim McGraw had a specific target in mind.
"I'm going to take out Luke Bryan," the country superstar, and host of the charity Tug McGraw Celebrity Sporting Clay Shootout, said jokingly to PEOPLE Tuesday at the Nashville Gun Club. "He's a Georgia boy, and I'm a Louisiana boy, so I've got an advantage right off."
"But I'm a little rusty, so I'm aiming for Luke's foot," McGraw, slated to hit the road this weekend on his summer tour with Kenny Chesney, continued. "I think if I can take him out, I've got it."
