Fitzgerald Grant III, the commander-in-chief in the ABC primetime soap Scandal, has not had a very easy first term. His time in office has been marked by infidelity, a stolen election and one failed assassination attempt. Nearly since the day he was inaugurated, Fitz (as portrayed by Tony Goldwyn) has dreamed of giving up the presidency in order to live a normal life with his advisor/mistress Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington). And yet, at every turn, he has backed down – his destiny, his duty to the American people, has been too great.
But has America actually benefitted from having Fitz in office? As Scandal approaches its midseason finale, let's examine how good of a chief executive Fitzgerald Grant III has been throughout his first term.

Kerry Washington has graced countless magazine covers including a recent issue of PEOPLE. But who knew she was the covergirl for Chess Masters and Kale Quarterly?
Those funny, far-flung – and fake – magazines were among several that Ellen DeGeneres mocked up with images of the Scandal star to surprise her during an interview airing Thursday on Ellen.
"This is a nightmare," she says. "They're all here."
Amid fits of laughter, the expecting actress, 36, had comebacks to each of the magazines.

It's the baby news heard 'round the world: Kerry Washington is expecting her first child, and while we're excited for the actress, it leaves fans of Scandal scratching their heads about what Washington's bump means for Olivia Pope.
Producer Shonda Rimes has remained mum since Washington's October announcement about whether the pregnancy will be written into the show, but should she choose not to, there's plenty of past precedent to draw from on how to handle a star's changing shape, ranging from the subtle to the downright ridiculous.

Walking into the after-party for her Saturday Night Live hosting gig in the wee hours of Nov. 3, Kerry Washington did something shocking: She grabbed the hand of her husband, former 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, and held it in public.
For the very private star, who wed in secret this past June after a three-year courtship she'd kept quiet even from friends, it may be out of character. But then again, she has a lot to be happy about at the moment: her loving marriage, her popular TV series, Scandal, and a baby on the way.
"Kerry's in it to win it, and she's winning," her friend Joe Reinstein, who worked with her during Barack Obama's two presidential campaigns, tells PEOPLE in its new issue, on stands Friday. "She deserves everything."

After coyly addressing Saturday Night Live's much-criticized diversity issues, Kerry Washington raised a considerably lighter question.
Playing host, the mom-to-be parodied Ylvis's "The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" with SNL's Jay Pharoah. Up for debate: "What does my girl say?" (Watch the video below.)
In a comedic departure from her Scandal alter ego, Washington offered up several answers, including but not limited to: "Who that, who that, who that b–h," "I got you, got you, got you pow" and "you done, you done messed up" (all to the tune of the viral hit, of course).
