After the startling revelation that husband and wife Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are distantly related as cousins, comes a brand new detail about what they share – again, courtesy of the show on genealogy, PBS's Finding Your Roots.

According to a network statement about this Sunday's episode tracing the actors' roots, "Bacon's Quaker ancestors repudiated slavery long before the rest of the country, in 1780."

And guess what? The Sedgwicks weren't long to follow in the crusade.

Claire Danes, Kevin Bacon Celebrate HBO's Girls

Originally posted 04/05/2012 12:00PM

The stars headed up to the Top of the Standard to celebrate the upcoming premiere of Girls, HBO's racy new comedy about four twentysomething women finding their way in New York City. And it was a glamorous cocktail party that was a far cry from the sometimes challenging Brooklyn living depicted on the witty new show.

With plates of charcuterie and cheese on reserved tables, guests such as Claire Danes, Chloe Sevigny, Gabourey Sidibe, former Real Housewives of N.Y.C. star Kelly Bensimon and the show's producer Judd Apatow fanned out around the circular room, mingling in the intimate space and taking in the panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline.

Danes shared a moment with the show's stars Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet while Lena Dunham, the new show's writer, director and lead actress, hung out at her private table, chatting with Apatow and greeting well-wishers such as John Cameron Mitchell with a friendly handshake. At one point, Dunham headed to Le Bain, just across the hall from the main party space, where she chatted with Boardwalk Empire's Steve Buscemi, who was enjoying a plate of food from the nearby buffet.

The revelation comes courtesy of the Sunday night PBS show on genealogy, Finding Your Roots.

Clad in a fire engine red Emilio Pucci column, The Closer star (and best drama actress nominee) explained the significance of the linear design resting just north of her exposed ribcage.

"It's a family tattoo," she told E! "It's all our initials K, K, S and T."

The actress was, of course, referring to husband of 23-years, Kevin Bacon, their son Travis, 22 and daughter Sosie, 19.

Kevin Bacon is not the kind of guy to look back at his past work. But when the studio unearthed his audition tape from 1984's original Footloose, he couldn't help himself.

"It was like a weird time-travel, out-of-body type thing," Bacon, 53, told PEOPLE. "It's like if you went and saw the interview you did for your first job. Wow. I literally turned the thing off, went into the bathroom, looked myself in the mirror and went, 'Jesus, is that even the same guy' "

So was he impressed with himself?

Like many other women who have struggled with weight and food issues, Kyra Sedwick admits that she too had a body image problem when she first started out in the business.

Playing a Holocaust survivor in the 1985 film War and Love, where the slender-framed actress dropped 20 lbs., started what she says was a year-long battle.

"Food has never been easy for me. I came back from that [role], and it triggered something," The Closer star, 44, tells More in its July/August issue. "I ate everything in sight. My weight went up and then too far down."

When it comes to debates at home with his wife Kyra Sedgwick and their teenage daughter Sosie, Kevin Bacon says he's the underdog – but that doesn't stop him from being strict in the areas he deems necessary.

"With my daughter I would say she usually wins [the debates], especially in the last few years," Bacon, 51, told PEOPLE at Tuesday's Lexus Darker Side of Green Climate Change debate in New York City. "When they are really little you can sort of play it off, but when they turn into teenagers you start to give them the heads up about their opinions and talk about things with them. But in the end she usually wins."

Sosie, 18, may have found a soft spot in her dad, but the Taking Chance star said he's still the disciplinarian at home. "I think I am more than mom," said Bacon. "I am about certain things, like curfews."

Romance seemed to be in the air Saturday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles as stars and their spouses showed their sweet affection for each other.

• Kevin Bacon was a bundle of nerves before his name was announced as best male actor in a TV movie or miniseries for his role in HBO's Taking Chance, but wife Kyra Sedgwick kept him looking his best. How? "I had to blot his face a little," she admitted to PEOPLE at the afterparty.

Mad Men star Christina Hendricks's new husband, Geoffrey Arend, was clearly his wife's biggest fan. "I feel like the luckiest man ever. She's such a cutie pie," he raved. "When Michael C. Hall said 'I want to thank my wife for wearing that dress,' I feel that way every single awards show." Hendricks agreed, telling PEOPLE, "He's been feeling me all night."

Kyra Sedgwick Teary About Work-Family Divide

Originally posted 08/10/2009 03:05PM

Kyra Sedgwick may feel less overwhelmed by her Los Angeles-based acting work these days, but that doesn't make her any less homesick for husband Kevin Bacon and the rest of her family in New York.

"I remember the first few years it was like I was in an ocean and constantly getting tumbled over. I thought I was going to drown," Sedgwick, 43, tells September's Ladies' Home Journal about her work since 2005 on the TNT drama The Closer, for which she is again nominated for an outstanding actress in a drama series Emmy.

"It's not like that anymore ... but the homesickness – missing the kids, missing those life moments – that gets harder and harder." Welling up, she adds: "I'm just a teary mess about that part of it."
