Kyra Sedgwick's Big Loss in Madoff Ponzi Scheme
Originally posted 06/11/2009 07:00AM
Kyra Sedgwick wishes to set the record straight about her family's finances after she and husband Kevin Bacon were caught up in the scandal created by notorious Ponzi scheme-operator Bernard Madoff.
Sedgwick, 43, star of TV's The Closer, says she and Bacon were damaged – but not "destroyed" – after losing money they had invested with Madoff, who pleaded guilty earlier this year to defrauding clients of billions of dollars. He is due to be sentenced June 16.
"We lost hard-earned money that we worked very hard for that we thought [was] in a safe place," says the actress, the Associated Press reports. "It's painful but a lot of people lost a lot more."

Kyra Sedgwick on Chace Crawford: 'He Has Big Shoes to Fill'
Originally posted 06/03/2009 06:30AM
Although Kyra Sedgwick puts in many hours on the set of The Closer, she, husband Kevin Bacon and daughter Sosie Bacon, 17, enjoy quality time together as often as possible. "I get to be home and spend the weekend with my daughter and husband – I need them!" Sedgwick told PEOPLE at a New York City event announcing Tropicana's Trop50 partnership with BlogHer, an online community for women.
But unlike most families, chatting about the movies can get very personal among the three. One recent topic of discussion? The casting of Kevin's signature role of Ren McCormack in the remake of 1984's Footloose. "It's that Chace Crawford guy, right?" says Sedgwick. "We're thrilled! Sosie is a big fan. We met him at the White House Correspondent's Dinner. Kevin and he had a chat. He's very sweet."
Ever loyal to her husband, Sedgwick adds, "He has big shoes to fill!"

Kevin Bacon Victim of Madoff Scheme
Originally posted 12/30/2008 02:50PM
Talk about six degrees being too close for comfort. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are the latest known victims of Bernie Madoff's $50 billion Ponzi scheme.
"I can confirm that they had investments with Mr. Madoff – no further specifics or comment beyond that," Bacon's rep, Allen Eichorn, told New York Magazine Tuesday.
As for reports that the couple lost everything except for their checking accounts and the land they own, Eichorn said, "Please, let's not speculate or rely on hearsay."
Other Hollywood elite have also been victimized by the fraudulent money manager: Steven Spielberg's Wunderkinder Foundation was hit, and DreamWorks' Jeffrey Katzenberg has lost "millions," reports the Wall Street Journal.

He'll portray John Wilkes Booth – the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln – in a new period drama, titled the The Booths.
The show will revolve around Booth's dysfunctional relationship with his thespian siblings in the years prior to Lincoln's murder. (His brother, distinguished actor Edwin Booth, was portrayed by Richard Burton in the 1955 biopic Prince of Players.)

Sure, Barack Obama has Oprah Winfrey. But he's not the only presidential hopeful calling in the star power.
Fellow Democrat John Edwards announced Sunday that Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins will join him on the campaign trail in Iowa this week.
As an incentive for supporters to tell their undecided friends and family about Edwards – the former senator from North Carolina who served as John Kerry's running mate in 2004 – the campaign is also offering memorabilia signed the two Mystic River costars.

Kevin Bacon 'Mortifies' His Kids
Originally posted 04/01/2005 06:00AM
Even when Dad is Kevin Bacon, a kid can still get embarrassed by her parents. When the Beauty Shop actor showed up with long hair extensions to pick up daughter Sosie, 13, at school, "she was totally mortified," Bacon told us at the movie's L.A. premiere. "I totally embarrassed her." But that's okay: Turns out wife Kyra Sedgwick loved the locks he wore to play snooty salon owner Jorge. Still, Bacon (who also has a 15-year-old son, Travis) says, "We're very embarrassing – probably the most embarrassing parents. We're constantly humiliating our kids in public."

Paris Hilton's Gift for Giving?
Originally posted 12/23/2004 06:00PM
Ever wonder what the super-rich – like, say, Paris Hilton – buy as gifts for their friends? Something fabulous, right? Well, 24 star Elisha Cuthbert revealed that for her recent 22nd birthday, pal Hilton (the two costar in the upcoming horror remake House of Wax) gave her a bottle of her Paris Hilton perfume and a signed copy of her own book, Confessions of an Heiress. Oh, that's not all – Cuthbert says Hilton also gave her "some Hello Kitty stuff." We thought it sounded a bit flimsy, but Cuthbert was very gracious. "I went, 'Of course you did! I love you!' She's the best. I love her. I love her to death. I thought, 'You never know with Paris.' But I'm in love with her. I think she's great."

Hugh Jackman's First Time
Originally posted 05/20/2004 06:00AM
We asked Van Helsing star Hugh Jackman – who is nominated for a Tony for his acclaimed Broadway turn in The Boy from Oz – about his first time ... seeing a musical, that is. "I think it was Cats," he told us. "I loved it. I was 11 when my father took me and I thought it was great – these cats jumping out behind me. It also scared the hell out of me." Yeah, us too. But wait, there's more: "My father also took me to La Cage aux Folles, which kind of surprised me because my father was a religious man," Jackman said. "So we get there and my brother and I are watching and (I) say, 'I think Dad's made a mistake.' "
