Whitney Houston's funeral brought the singer back to where it all began – the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., where she performed as a child in the choir.
On Saturday, those same walls were filled with music and stories of the star who touched so many lives in her 48 years.
With tears and laughter, BeBe Winans shared memories of sitting with Houston – in her closet – preparing for her first tour. "We weren't crowded," he joked of the space. "It was as big as this church."

It was one of the most memorable love stories of the '90s: A former Secret Service agent, enlisted to look after a pop star thrust into danger in the spotlight, falls for the woman he's hired to protect.
But before The Bodyguard arrived in theaters in 1992, before the on-screen romance between Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner went down in cinema history, there was a simple question: Will it work?
Costner remembered that question at the late singer's funeral Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. There was a time, after all, that Houston doubted herself, he recalled to mourners gathered at the church and fans watching via Livestream.
"The greatest pop star in the world didn't think she was good enough," the actor, 57, said of Houston, who died last week at 48. "There were a thousand things that seemed to her to be wrong."

In the 20 years since Kevin Costner locked lips with Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard, his career has been all over the place: fronting a country band, working on environmental engineering, owning a minor-league baseball team. He's even done a little acting.
But for Costner, 57, who is scheduled to speak at his late friend's funeral on Saturday, his biggest recent job has been as a later-in-life dad to three young children, Cayden, 4½, Hayes, 3, and Grace, 20 months.
"It's noisy, really noisy," Costner said last year of his family with Christine Baumgartner, whom he married on his Aspen ranch in 2004. "The one thing I pray for in life is not success, but being able to raise my children and that nothing happens to me in the next 20 years."

Not only is Bobby Brown not banned from attending Whitney Houston's invitation-only funeral on Saturday, he is performing with New Edition a few hours later, it was just announced.
"He is not being banned. That's completely untrue," a family source tells PEOPLE.
Adds a close family friend: "Bobby will be there at the funeral to support his [and Houston's] daughter [Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18]. There was some talk ... some people were angry at him, but that's just grief. He will be there."

Fifty days into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and with no successful attempts to stop it just yet, Kevin Costner visited Washington on Wednesday to offer up what he called a "partial solution to the tragedy unfolding in the Gulf."
"We are all at fault here. It's just too easy to blame BP," the actor said at a Congressional hearing. "What we need to do now is come together."
Telling the House Energy and Environment Subcommittee he was testifying as a "discouraged U.S. citizen and entrepreneur," Costner, 55, said his business venture, Ocean Therapy Solutions, had developed a machine which could help with the cleanup.
The device, he said, has purifiers that filter oil from water by using centrifugal forces to separate the dirty particles.
