Kid Rock Helps Boy Scout Troop Pay for Stolen Equipment
Originally posted 05/13/2008 12:35PM
Raucous rocker Kid Rock may really be a Boy Scout at heart. When he read about a Florida scout troop that lost nearly $10,000 worth of equipment to thieves, Rock said he'd send a check to help out.
The singer was in Orlando for a concert over the weekend when he read about the problems Oviedo Boy Scout Troop 631 were having: a trailer belonging to the troop and all the gear inside of it were stolen from behind a church, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
The scouts had worked for seven years to raise the funds to buy the trailer and the camping gear they had stowed inside it, and were planning a trip to Tennessee this summer.
After reading about the hardship, Kid Rock came to the rescue. He wrote an e-mail to the troop saying: "I will cut them a check for the difference and hopefully will allow the boys to make their trip," according to the newspaper.

Kid Rock's Hair to Be Tamed at Waffle House?
Originally posted 03/11/2008 01:45PM
Kid Rock wants to grill up some food Tuesday at an Atlanta-area Waffle House where he is expected for a benefit – but first he'll have to do something about his long hair.
"He said he wanted to get on the grill, so we're going to let him," said David Tharp, manager of the Waffle House in Duluth, Ga., where the singer will appear for two hours to cook and serve. "If he's going to be on the grill, he'll definitely have to wear the proper attire. He'll have to restrain his hair."
Tharp and his staff are looking forward to the visit from Kid Rock, who was enthusiastic about coming in and cooking for charity. All donations the restaurant gets during his two-hour stint will go to the Nicholas House Foundation, a transitional housing shelter that helps homeless families in the Metro Atlanta area. Kid Rock has a concert Tuesday night at the nearby Gwinett Center.

Kid Rock Pleads Not Guilty to Waffle House Fight Charge
Originally posted 03/03/2008 12:00PM
Kid Rock pleaded not guilty Monday to a battery charge stemming from a fight at a Waffle House in Atlanta last fall.
Rock (a.k.a. Robert James Ritchie) was not present but was represented by his attorney, Darryl Cohen, who waived an arraignment hearing and entered the plea on Ritchie's behalf in DeKalb County State Court, according to Cohen's office, the Associated Press reports.
Rock maintains that he was provoked into the Waffle House fight, which led to him and five members of his entourage getting arrested Oct. 21 on a misdemeanor charge of simple battery.
The group had stopped for some grub following his "great show" at The Tabernacle. "We were having a good time. And one kid just started [talking]. ... One thing led to another, and windows were broken," the rocker said at the time.
He added, in the words of Johnny Cash, that what followed was a lot of "cussin' and fussin' in the mud and the blood and beer."

Originally posted 11/26/2007 04:35PM
Kid Rock has a major makeover in the works: He'll chop off his famously long locks.
"I definitely want to cut it. I think this is the last record with the hair," the rocker, 36, tells Extra. "I've had enough. I'm going to slick it back [and], whoosh, ride off into the sunset."
Though his plans for exactly when he'll get a new 'do are up in the air, the singer says there is one thing for certain: His plans to visit American troops in Iraq this holiday season.
"I told my son [Robert, 17] I'm going to go to Iraq to be with some people who can't be with their families," he says. "We're not doing presents this year. I'm going to spend some time with these people, 'cause we've been very fortunate at the end of the day."
