RULED: The name of the Colorado woman who accused Kobe Bryant, 26, of sexual assault will be made public in the civil lawsuit she is pressing against him, federal Judge Richard Matsch decided Wednesday. In making the ruling, the jurist said that allowing the 20-year-old to remain anonymous could be misconstrued by a jury as a prejudgment in the case. Lawyers for the woman – who intends to follow through with the case – had asked Matsch to protect her identity, saying she has faced death threats. Prosecutors dropped felony charges against L.A. Laker Bryant last month after his accuser refused to testify.

KOBE DISMISSED: In a stunning development Wednesday, Colorado prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges against Kobe Bryant after the young woman who made the accusations said she could not go on with the criminal case. Her civil suit against the Los Angeles Lakers superstar will proceed as planned, however. Neither Bryant, 26, nor his 20-year-old accuser (a concierge who claimed Bryant raped her after she entered his Vail hotel room on June 30, 2003) were in the courtroom at the time of Judge Terry Ruckriegle's announcement.

Rape charges against NBA star Kobe Bryant, 26, were dismissed Wednesday after the 20-year-old Colorado woman who made the accusation said she couldn't go on with the criminal case. (Her civil suit against Bryant will proceed as planned, however.) The Laker star later released a statement: "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way that I did."
