Kyra Sedgwick's Success Is 'Bittersweet'

With her award-winning show starting its fourth season, and her 20th anniversary to Kevin Bacon around the corner, Kyra Sedgwick has it all. But the success of The Closer has its downside, too, she tells Redbook in its July 15 issue.

"The last thing I wanted to do was move to L.A. for six months of the year," she says. "But now I have to live with the wonderful success of it all and the bitter-sweetness of that success – because success means I'm not home."

Still, she's not complaining – especially not about her family.

Playing sugar-loving L.A. detective Brenda Johnson on the TNT drama The Closer gave Kyra Sedgwick a kick-start in her career after taking time off to raise her kids – Travis, 17, and Sosie, 14 – with husband Kevin Bacon. Now the Golden Globe nominee has also earned an Emmy nod for her quirky role. We asked Van Helsing star Hugh Jackman – who is nominated for a Tony for his acclaimed Broadway turn in The Boy from Oz – about his first time ... seeing a musical, that is. "I think it was Cats," he told us. "I loved it. I was 11 when my father took me and I thought it was great – these cats jumping out behind me. It also scared the hell out of me." Yeah, us too. But wait, there's more: "My father also took me to La Cage aux Folles, which kind of surprised me because my father was a religious man," Jackman said. "So we get there and my brother and I are watching and (I) say, 'I think Dad's made a mistake.' "
