Lance Armstrong Returns His Olympic Medal

Lance Armstrong has returned his Olympic bronze cycling medal, the latest fallout from his confession to using performance-enhancing drugs.

Armstrong won the medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. The International Olympic Committee in January vacated the medal Armstrong won in the road time trial. Armstrong Tweeted Thursday that he gave it back and a U.S. Olympic Committee spokesman released a statement confirming its return.

Armstrong's Tweet included a photo of the medal and its blue ribbon along with the message: "The 2000 Bronze is back in possession of @usolympics and will be in Switzerland asap."

There is at least one person who feels empathy for Lance Armstrong in the wake of his shocking doping confession: his ex-fiancée, Sheryl Crow.

Following the cyclist's televised admission to Oprah Winfrey, Crow, 50, appeared on Entertainment Tonight, where she briefly discussed the scandal surrounding her ex.

"I know how hard he worked to win those titles, and you know, it was hard to watch," Crow said, referring to his Tour de France wins. (In August, Armstrong, 41, was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles.)

After being stripped of his seven Tour de France titles last August – and apparently lying in interviews for more than a decade – Lance Armstrong has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs to win his multiple cycling championships, CBS News confirmed.

Armstrong, 41, made the personal confession to Oprah Winfrey in an interview to air over two nights starting Thursday on her OWN network, Winfrey announced Tuesday morning.
