Lance Bass is speaking out against homophobia. In a one-minute public-service announcement, the singer encourages people to participate in this year's National Day of Silence, which will honor 15-year old Lawrence King, who died after being shot by a classmate in class – allegedly for being gay.
The 28-year-old former 'N Syncer – who came out as gay on a 2006 cover of PEOPLE – brings attention to anti-gay name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. "Everyday thousands of students are silenced. They are silenced by fear, they are silenced for being who they are," Bass says in his spot. "They are silenced by anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender bullying and harassment. On, April 25th their silence will be heard around the country."

Joey Fatone to Lance Bass: Your Mom's Going to Kill You

The Singing Bee host Joey Fatone wants to add a page to his former 'N Sync bandmate Lance Bass's new memoir, Out of Sync.
"I was one of the first to find out that Lance was gay when I saw him with another guy," Fatone, 30, tells Parade.com. "Lance wrote something like, 'Joey knew right then and there I was gay, but he really didn't care one way or the other.' I think I said to him, 'I still love you like a brother.'
"But I also said, 'If your mother finds out, she's going to kill you.' "

Forget the East Coast-West Coast rap rivalries of the past. The latest celebrity feud has a former boybander and a top rap star dishing out threats.
Lance Bass and 50 Cent (real name: Curtis James Jackson III) are releasing books at the same time, and even held their launch parties on the same night. At 50's party in New York's Philippe Tuesday, he told the New York Daily News that Bass
better watch his back. "He doesn't stand a chance," the rapper said as he promoted his coffee-table book, 50 x 50.

Lance Bass is reveling in the attention he's getting from his new memoir, but the former 'N Sync star says there's one person in particular who's playing hard to get.
"No calls from Ellen [DeGeneres]," Bass told PEOPLE at his book launch party at the Azza restaurant in New York Tuesday. "She won't even have me on her show!"
