George Jones Remembered by Country Stars at Funeral

Originally posted 05/02/2013 05:50PM

For a guy who sang so many sad songs, George Jones left behind a lot of laughs.

There was more humor than sadness at Jones's funeral Thursday at the Grand Ole Opry House as thousands gathered in Nashville – some arriving hours before sunrise –to pay their respects to the man whose voice has defined country music for more than half a century.

Friend after friend related stories of Jones' kindness, his love for his widow, Nancy, who's credited with helping him survive his personal demons later in life, and the funny little moments that will stick with them always.

Barney Bush Dies

Originally posted 02/02/2013 09:30AM

Barney, the perky black Scottish Terrier who made the White House his home alongside President George W. Bush and his family from 2001 to 2009, has passed away. He was almost 13.

You might remember him from a series of White House videos with puppy pal Miss Beazley – or famously biting a member of the press corps – but Barney Bush was a lifelong-pal to the former First Family, who made the sad announcement on Facebook late Friday.

David Lauren, son of fashion mogul Ralph Lauren, and Lauren Bush, niece of former President George W. Bush, were married Sunday in a lavish ceremony in Colorado, PEOPLE has confirmed.

After meeting in 2004 and getting engaged last year, Bush, 27, and Lauren, 39, exchanged vows at the designer's 17,000-acre Double RL Ranch (named for Ralph and wife Ricky Lauren) in the Rocky Mountains.

Though the actual ceremony took place on Sunday, the entire holiday weekend was built around wedding festivities, including a picnic and softball game Saturday, rehearsal dinner Saturday night and a post-wedding rodeo scheduled for Monday.

Bush Twins take note: Your dad is anxious to be a grandfather.

"I'm a little disappointed it hasn't happened yet," former President George W. Bush tells December's AARP The Magazine. "But the more disappointment I show, the less likely it is things are going to happen on the time table I want."

He may be in for a wait since 28-year-old daughters Jenna Bush Hager, who married in 2008, and Barbara Bush are both focused on their careers. Jenna told PEOPLE in May that it will be "years" before she gives her parents grandkids. Fortunately, Bush has his wife Laura to keep him company.

Jenna Bush Outs Her Mom as 'Secret Rastafarian'

What does former First Lady Laura Bush have on her iPod? The answer may surprise you.

"My mom's a secret Rastafarian," her daughter Jenna says in an interview scheduled to air on the Oprah Winfrey Show Tuesday, "so [she plays] Bob Marley" around the house.

Appearing on the show with her sister Barbara and mom Laura, who was promoting her new memoir Spoken from the Heart, Jenna explains what a typical night at the Bush family ranch in Crawford, Texas, is like. There's the music (the family also listens to "old country [songs]," Jenna says), family activities and plenty of food.

"We don't really cook dinner if I'm gonna be honest," Jenna says. "Somebody cooks dinner and we sit around and we talk and we laugh and we do puzzles and we get in bed by 9:00."

Teases Laura: "They didn't use to."

Laura Bush's Memoirs Address Fatal Car Crash

Originally posted 04/28/2010 12:00PM

Reversing a long-held position about remaining quiet about the fateful incident, Laura Bush is now discussing the November 1963 car crash in Midland, Texas, that killed a high school friend – which she says has haunted her for her entire life, according to the former first lady's soon-to-be published memoir, Spoken from the Heart.

According to the book, a copy of which has been obtained by The New York Times, 17-year-old Laura Welch (Bush's maiden name) was driving her father's Chevrolet Impala with a girlfriend as passenger, rushing to a drive-in movie when she ran a stop sign and hit the car being driven by her school's star athlete, Mike Douglas.

"In those awful seconds, the car door must have been flung open by the impact and my body rose in the air until gravity took over and I was pulled, hard and fast, back to earth," she writes, according to The Times. Later, she says, "I was praying that the person in the other car was alive. In my mind, I was calling 'Please, God. Please, God. Please, God,' over and over and over again."
