Judd Apatow Jokes: I'm a 'Disgusting Man'

Aging is no easy process – just ask Judd Apatow.

As the writer, director and co-producer of This Is 40, Apatow, 45, sees a bit of himself in the film's stars, Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann, who play a longtime married couple.

"I relate to just being a disgusting man and feeling bad that my wife even has to be around me," Apatow, who is married to Mann in real life, recently told PEOPLE with a laugh.

"You get older and you have things that need to be checked and looked at. It's not very romantic. I try to keep it to a minimum, but every now and then, you say, 'You have to look at this.' "

Governors Awards Brings Out the Oscar Hopefuls in Hollywood

Sure, the presidential election season may be long over, but the spirit of democracy is still in full-swing in Hollywood, where some familiar faces are campaigning for the industry version of a spot in the White House: a gold Oscar statuette.

You'll have to wait until February to see which of your favorite scene-stealers will take home honors at the 85th Academy Awards. Until then, the industry's top contenders arrived in head-to-toe red carpet form Saturday at the Academy's Governors Awards, which serves as an unofficial venue for potential nominees to convince Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences members to rock the vote (in their favor, of course).

Jennifer Lawrence Gets Pampered During a Shopping Event for Ladies

Jennifer Lawrence kept a mellow profile during a recent outing at the Los Angeles home of producer Jennifer Klein, but she seemed to enjoy herself during the relaxing experience.

Stopping by the 14th Annual Day of Indulgence event, a "low-key" Lawrence "didn't mingle with too many of the guests," an onlooker tells PEOPLE. "She was really spending her time shopping at the pop-up stores in the hostess's backyard."

But Lawrence was also able to give her feet a break. She sat back and "enjoyed a relaxing pedicure," the source says, adding that she opted for water instead of vodka cocktails by Russian Standard, which were on hand for guests who wanted to sip on alcoholic beverages.

Other celebrities who attended included Christina Hendricks, Sophia Bush, Malin Ackerman and Leslie Mann.

Costar Exposes Adam Sandler's Pickup Technique

He's a Saturday Night Live legend and one of the most successful movie comedians of his generation. But back in his single days, did Adam Sandler have much game?

According to Leslie Mann, who plays his love interest in the new comedy Funny People, the answer is a resounding no.

"I actually met Adam before I met Judd," says Mann, 37, referring to her husband Judd Apatow, who wrote and directed Funny People. Apatow is also the comic force behind Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin – and the couple's daughters, Maude, 11, and Iris, 6, play Mann's children in Funny People, which opens July 31.
