Noel Gallagher Says He's Left Oasis
Originally posted 08/29/2009 08:00AM
Oasis founder and frontman Noel Gallagher has left his brother Liam and their band after a bitter backstage brawl outside Paris on Friday night.
In a statement posted on the band's Web site just hours after the band failed to appear at the Rock en Seine in St. Cloud, Gallagher, apologizing "to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan," announced: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight ... I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
The band was scheduled to headline the French festival in Paris Friday, but sources tell PEOPLE that an altercation between the brothers forced organizers to announce the cancellation. Amy MacDonald, who had already appeared at the concert, Twittered that Oasis "cancelled again with one minute to stage time!!! Liam smashed Noel's guitar, huuuge fight!"
Formed in 1991 by Manchester-born brothers Noel, 42, and Liam Gallagher, 36, Oasis was heavily influenced by The Beatles and in turn, influenced a generation of contemporary bands. Since their first album Definitely Maybe in 1994, Oasis has released nine albums and sold more than 50 million copies. Among their single hits are "Wonderwall," "Go Let It Out" and "Don't Look Back In Anger."

Oasis Singer Liam Gallagher Marries Longtime Girlfriend
Originally posted 02/15/2008 06:30AM
Happy Valentine's Day, indeed.
Oasis singer Liam Gallagher married his longtime girlfriend, All Saints singer Nicole Appleton, on Thursday, his rep confirms to PEOPLE.
The ceremony took place in London's Westminster Register Office (where, oddly enough, Gallagher also wed his first wife, Patsy Kensit).
According to U.K. music news site NME.com, the wedding was so secret, even Liam's bandmate brother Noel Gallagher was kept in the dark.
The pair – who have been together eight years – have a 6-year-old son, Gene.
Gallagher split from Kensit (with whom he has a son, Lennon) in 2000.
Appleton was previously engaged to British singer Robbie Williams.
WEEK IN REVIEW: Julia No. 1 Actress

ROBERTS ROCKS: Julia Roberts, who commands $20 million per film, was named the highest-paid film actress on the Hollywood Reporter's list of the 100 most powerful women in entertainment. Overall, the "Erin Brockovich" Oscar winner, 32, ranked No. 12 on the trade paper's register. Despite her lofty position, however, Roberts came in at No. 3 on the same list last year. Her only film role this year, in Steven Soderbergh's "Full Frontal," was a flop. The second most powerful actress is Cameron Diaz, 30, who also can apparently pull down $20 million a film.
