It was a heartbreaking year for Miley Cyrus as her relationship with Liam Hemsworth crumbled. And no single day was tougher, perhaps, than Valentine's Day.
That's the day she wrote "Drive," a breakup song that's on her upcoming album Bangerz. The breakup wouldn't happen for a few more months, but Cyrus, 20, knew it was coming.
"I wrote it while I was working on Valentine's Day – emotionally it was such a hard time," the pop star tells Fashion magazine's November issue, on newsstands Oct. 7.

Well, that was quick.
Just a day after it was announced that his engagement with Miley Cyrus was over, Liam Hemsworth wasn't just spotted flirting with a new gal: he was caught in a passionate lip-lock with Mexican actress and singer Eiza Gonzalez.

The next night, they were spotted at XS nightclub before returning to Hakkasan, where they seemed "coupley," according to an onlooker.

It's officially over: Reps for both Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth confirm to PEOPLE exclusively that the engagement is off between the two stars.
The news marks the end of a tumultuous year in which Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, have experienced more break-ups than bonding moments.
The couple – who first met on the movie set of 2010's The Last Song – got engaged in May 2012. At the time, the singer told PEOPLE, "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
