M.I.A.'s Baby Is Named Ikhyd – Not Ickitt
Originally posted 03/23/2009 04:35PM
Well, that clears that up. Sort of.
Rapper M.I.A. was beside herself when reports surfaced she named her baby Ickitt. She denied it and added sarcastically she also hadn't named her child Pickit or Lickit.
Now, according to Health Department records, it turns out the boy's name at least appears to rhyme with the rest: Ikhyd.
Full name: Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman. He arrived in this world the afternoon of Feb. 11 in Los Angeles, the first child for the Sri Lanka-born M.I.A., 31, whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, and fiancé Benjamin Bronfman, 26, also a musician.
The birth came between M.I.A.'s memorable Grammy performance on Feb. 8, her original due date, and the Oscars at which her song "O Saya," from Best Picture Slumdog Millionaire, was nominated.

In a humorous message on her MySpace Celebrity Blog, the "Paper Planes" songstress shot down the rumors while poking fun at a few of the more unique names bestowed upon certain celebrity kids.
"MY BABY IS NOT CALLED ICKITT, PICKIT OR LICKIT THANK YOU VERY MUCH, " she writes. "HES A BABY, HE DONT NEED PRESS!"
Explaining that she doesn't consider her son's name to be newsworthy information, M.I.A., 31, says she'll be back with something for her fans soon. "TILL THEN GO PICK ON APPLE, SATCHEL AND MOON UNIT," she suggests.

Rapper M.I.A. had better add one more person to her Grammy entourage – a doctor.
The pregnant hip-hop star, who is nominated for two awards, is scheduled to perform at the ceremony Sunday, which is also her due date.
"They say that you're often late the first time, so I'm planning to go," the mom-to-be, 31, who is engaged to musician Benjamin Brewer, tells USA Today. "We'll see. People are trying to get me to relax and focus on the baby. It's like being in parallel universes."

The rapper, 31, says she and her fiancé, the Exit frontman Benjamin Brewer, have not picked out baby names yet.
