Patrick Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi spoke from the heart Tuesday about losing her husband just six weeks ago, telling a women’s conference that the loss “is like an animal all of its own” and the sadness could be felt “on a cellular level.”

"When the grief takes you, it's like your body is not your own,” Niemi, who was married to the actor for 34 years, said during a roundtable discussion on Grief, Healing and Resilience at the Women's Conference 2009 in Long Beach, Calif. “I'm just going with the flow. I know I have to go through it."

Kelly Preston Says It's 'Too Soon' to Speak About Losing Her Son

Plans for actress Kelly Preston to break her silence about losing her 16-year-old son, Jett, have been put on hold, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The actress, who is married to John Travolta, had agreed to speak at the California Governor's Conference for Women hosted by Maria Shriver in October on a panel titled "Grief & Resilience" following Jett's sudden death this January.

"It is with my sincere apologies that I must pull out from speaking at [the] conference. I am sorry, but I truly believed that I could do it," Preston tells PEOPLE in a statement. "Otherwise I never would have said that I could. But I am still deeply in the process of healing, and it's just too soon."

Maria Shriver may be part of the powerful Kennedy clan – and married to California's Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger – but she doesn't want anyone to think her life is absolutely perfect.

"I don't have it all together ... the road is bumpy, and I don't have any shame in sharing that," the mother of four, 53, tells Lynn Sherr for The Daily Beast. "I find that people are so grateful that you say, 'Well, I'm having a very difficult time with my parents getting older.' Or, 'My parents are struggling and I'm struggling, too.' "

Halle Berry played hostess this week in the moonlit garden of her Hollywood Hills home to fete famed acting teacher Ivana Chubbuck's book The Power of the Actor. Berry, looking slim and cool in a handkerchief hem dress, said she credits Chubbuck's help in nailing her Monster's Ball role, which won her a Best Actress Oscar: "She gave the courage to take that on." Party guest Eva Mendes called Chubbuck "my safety net," and Garry Shandling, who drove over directly from a Tonight Show appearance, called her the "woman I can't act without." Also milling about in Berry's garden: Orlando Bloom, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Biel, Pink, Eriq LaSalle and Craig Kilborn. "It's a nice night – all of us together to honor this great nurturer," said Mendes. "She's helped every one of us. Now we can read all her wisdom in a book." True, since the goody bag everyone took home contained an autographed copy.
